    Hi,

I'm planning on buying this laptop in a couple of weeks and would like to get some recommendation from you guys regarding the configuration. I just need help with the processor and the memory option...which one is best.

I would like for it to be able to play pretty much any games that are out right now and also the near future.

I'm mostly buying the laptop for gaming and to do a little work such as photoshop CS4 and InDesign CS4 on it.

Your going to want the QX9300 if you can afford it, other wise the processor doesn't really matter (2.53 duel is fine for gamming, quad would be better for photoshop, also get a quad if you ever plan to play GTA IV). Get 4gigs ram pr 8gigs (skip the 6gigs) however I doubt you will ever need 8 gigs, then two 7200 RPMs in RAID 0.

If you're up to installing your own CPU, this deal on the QX9300 is still active:

I ordered mine at the end of August, took around 3 weeks to get in.

If you google the part number, you can also find 3rd party parts suppliers offering it for slightly less.

Installing your own components is a breeze if you want to go that route.

Can't really afford the QX9300, so I'm going with.....

    45nm Intel® Core™ 2 Quad Processor Q9000 / 6MB L2 Cache, 2.0GHz, 1066MHz FSB

    and

    the 8 gig

    Thanks for the help again.

The 8GB is overkill, but enjoy :)

Well not to point you in another direction but the i7 processor lines will be better suited (IMO) for CS4 and CAD work depending on usage which you state is light.
The Q9000 is no slouch but you could go with the T9700 or P9700 as well to save some bucks as Quads not really necessary for most gaming.
Obviously you get SLI with the M980NU/NP9850 but that may not matter as much for depending on the gaming. Although I must say the 18.4" screen is nice but lugging it around can be difficult and don't forget your power source. In either case you need that as these things last about an hour on battery (depending on what you are doing).

Is it really? Ok I'll go with the 6 gig instead.

    Good to know kagey...thanks.

The truth is I really haven't played any game on the PC except for playing NES and SNES emulator. All my gaming is usually on the console.

I just wanted a nice laptop that can run almost every game that has come out before Crysis. Just something strong that I can use to check out on all the PC exclusive game I've never played before.

No memory issues / constraints with 4 gig for me. I think most of us have 4 gig and I'm just waiting to see the 4 gig sticks go down in price before I upgrade that unless I switch machines before that happens. lol

Xoticpc will give you a better price and way better customer service.

4 gbs is way enough for games. Unless you use a program that you know for sure that will use more than 4gigs of ram (not photoshop), 8gbs is pointless.

Why don't you buy the laptop with the lowest processor, sell the cpu and buy the HP QX9300? It wouldn't be that much more than a Q9000.

i7 is most suitable for you tho. But I don't think any SLI systems are yet avaible with these.
