I want to reformat my hard drive to clean it up, I've backed up important files on an external drive and I'm planning on trying windows7 after the reformat.

however I was just looking through the print and discs I got with my notebook from Xotic PC and the only windows disk is the "Recovery DVD-ROM for Windows Vista Home Premium 32/64 bit w/service pack 1" This seems to be the install disc for Vista however there is no Microsoft authentication/product key or anything. Will I need one to install off this disc?

You will need the the Vista product key code to re-install Vista. When Vista is purchased the key code sticker is placed on the bottom of the machine.
