    Hi guys,

A few day ago, amd 6970m in sager site fell to $65 and now this 6970 option was gone.

I just wondering when was the amd 6970m first release? and how much is it initially?

Is sager try to clear their amd 6970m stock for amd 6990m release, or these are from those buyers who request for money-back guarantee or cancel the orders unit ?

I searched through the forum and can not find any thread stating 6970m issue.
But may I may have missed it.

For those of you who are having amd 6970m, do u have any graphic problem or other wierd issue (freeze, overheat, blackout, fan noise annoying? Please kindly let me know.

Or you can point out which thread involve such problem discussed.

I already ask my reseller to check whether sager still have stock left, I may order np 8170 with amd 6970m.

If there is issue with the card, I will just ask him to hold and wait for amd 6990m. Hopefully the price will be nice and gtx485m will drop another $200.( I really wish that... :p)

I do not want to jump into the pond then find out that the water is burning hot.

Please help me out. Thank you.

6970 is only $60 upgrade at Prostar P150HM Gaming Laptop | Clevo P150HM Gaming Laptop | Sager NP8150 Gaming Laptop | Custom Built Gaming Laptop

People are getting rid of 6970m for the upcoming 6990m and I suggest you wait like the rest of us, only in two more week and you get a top of the line mobile gpu. Remember the 6970m is $60 upgrade while the 6990m is $245 upgrade. You save $185 but the 6990m is not a refresh and well worth the extra $185. If you need to know, the 6970m is about $270 msrp.

Hope that was helpful to you.

I would personally wait for the 6990m.

It wasn't me, but many others complained about the 6970m because it had so many issues. ( Mine is running fine, though. )

Hard to say if the $185 is worth it tbh. You're not looking at a huge gap here. This is similar to the 460m vs 560m in terms of performance. ~15%.

Well here how I see it. I rather have the 485m over the 6970m so I'm sure once the 6990m is release, no way the 485m is not reduce in price if not immediately, it more expensive than the 6990m and not as good as it. If the 485m drop like it was last time to $145 upgrade i'm ordering ASAP and overclocking it to the 580m stock!

So when 6970m initial launch, it need $270 for upgrade cost, then 6990m is probably around the same price upgrade.

After i read through the following thread, if I am not mistaken, it is not that much improvement. Correct me if i am wrong, I am not too good in analyzing with so many 3d mark result, some are crossfire some are not.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m18x/596922-i-have-6990m-cfx-already-but-35.html

And i really not sure how big is 15% improvement, I don't do 3d shooting game, make me sea sick. Problem of the older people, nowadays, young people don't experience such thing... funny.

My final price is US$1658 with extra option like amd6970m, ic diamond, windows 7 premium, intel n-6230 wireless, 1 year local warranty and shipping charge( I don't live in us) All others are standard option.

What my initial thought is to use the money saved (may be around US$200) and add in a little bit to get crucial sata3 SSD 64gb or 128gb. (cheapest sata3, reliability don't know, every brand also have problem nowaday including crucial )

    Crucial 64gig M4 is selling US$162 and 128gb M4 is US$295.

So I can have a quite a powerful machine with advance tech, which cost approximate US$ 2000.

Then I read someone mention amd 6970 got issue but never mention clearly. I even check with my local reseller, they told me it had little issue
, don't know amd did fix it. But he did not mention what issue is the card having. Quite suspicious.

Now, if I go to amd route, can i upgrade to nvidia card in future or from Nvidia to AMD?

Adding more to the confusion, read from some thread, upgrading cost range from AMD 400 to Nvidia 700 (high end card), so is it really worth to upgrade or just get a new machine after 3 to 4 yrs.

If I pick the route of purchasing a new laptop after 4 yrs, might as well keep current cost as low as possible (have to be reasonable) at the same time getting option with most price/performance value.

    Am my theory correct?? :)

BBS: You need to search harder for your SSD pricing. I regularly see the M4 128gb for around $200-$225 on slickdeals.net.

I personally have the 128gb Crucial C300 which I love ( you can find for around 185 now). I had to tweak some intel drivers to get rid of a stuttering, but its fantastic now. Well worth the upgrade.

    Hi! seanowns,

Thanks for the advice. Those are from the local retailer price list. If purchase online, What is the procedure to claim warranty if ssd gone wrong?

    I am still undecided, my option are (1) 2 500gb 7200 hard drive, (2) 1 seagate hybrid drive and 1 500gb 7200 and (3) ssd +500gb 7200 drive.

May need some more time to research into it.

Hi BBS: Warranty claims are safe if you are using the good websites. I would recommend Newegg.com - Computer Parts, Laptops, Electronics, HDTVs, Digital Cameras and More! for the least possible hassle and very competitive pricing.

M4 128gb is showing 214.99 (cheaper then c300 even which is odd).

I would continue researching. I would find forums related to the SSD in question to determine any small issues you can likely fix or reasons to avoid.

With my Crucial C300, I initially had a stutter effect which caused the computer to almost pause for 5 seconds. It turned out to be an intel driver which upon removal entirely fixed the issue.

Hard to say if 15% is worth it?!?!

Let's say Warren Buffet, whose worth is estimated at 52 billion dollars, offered you 15% of his fortune. That's 7.8 billion dollars!

BY PASSING ON THE 6990, YOU ARE PASSING ON 7.8 BILLION DOLLARS!!

I'd only say 15% improvement is worth it if it actually affects what you're going to use it for. With the games you expect to play, will the 6970 give you the graphics you want? And would paying another $185 for the 6990m give you noticeable improvement?

the difference between 24fps and 30fps is the difference between playable and not playable Battlefield 3.

you´ll have to reduce effects to achieve 30fps while in a 15% better gpu you can just play it =)

    6990 ftw

Exactly, it may not seem much but sometime it could mean the differences between playing on Ultra vs on High, now I ask you is that worth the extra $185?

if according to u guys saying, our only choice here is amd 6990m and gtx580. Although gtx485 can be overclock to stock gtx580, but don't know whether it is stable and life span with overclock.

So lets say when Amd 6990m release, gtx485 drop to $250 upgrade, pair with amd 6990m, same price. Which one would you people pick?

When the 6990M comes in, expect thee 485M to disappear altogether.

It's only being sold cheaply to clear the inventory.

Nope I think Jack is happy with his 6970m, but yes I am waiting for the 6990m as well as a lot of other members on here. If you think about it, you get one chance to buy a gaming laptop and since the laptop GPU is like 3X more expensive than a desktop graphic card, it best to have the best GPU at that time so you can be able to play high and medium for the next 4 years. It may not mean much now, but when future games come out, people who cheap out on the GPU will regret it. I tend to think of long term instead of short term.

hmm, i got your point now, it is better to get a better video card now if the price is not ridiculously as the gtx580m. Furthermore, upgrading will not be cheap and would not regret like lower end card user who could play the future game by a few fps.

    Thanks cheesy.

    Your welcome!

And yes laptop GPU are extremely overprice if bought separately. Just know bbs when the 6990m come out we will have the most powerful 15.6 gaming notebook on the planet! I think you can wait for that. Oh yeah 6990m is now $120 cheaper than the 485m fyi.
