Will the Clevo P170sm(-a) get lower fan speed and lower temps if i repaste the cpu and gpu?

    edit: with 870-880m i7-4700/4710mq

Have you repasted the GPU and CPU before in this computer? If not, I think you'd see substantial drops in temperature no matter what thermal paste you use. Go for it.

I have actualy never had an laptop before only desktops that i have built myself, so im doing my research with this.. I have read alot of reviews about clevo's and they seem to have horrible temps because of bad factory paste job. do you know of any that have recorded the p170sm 870-880 temps/repasting ? cant find any..

(did have an macbook pro late 2009.. NEVER AGAIN. damn tablet with keyboard and no touch screen lol)

If you got the stock thermal compound and if done right then yes it can reduce temps which in turn will make the fans run lower, at least while not under load.

Get yourself some IC Diamond 7 or some Gelid GC Extreme and repaste them, you'll shave anywhere from 2C to 8C depending on how bad the paste job is and what paste they used.

The quality of the compound and the quality of the paste job will most definitely help to abate high temperatures, thus reducing the fan activity to some extent. Stressing the system will still cause the temps to rise, in which case the fans will kick in at a faster RPM, depending on the amount of heat generated.

How much it impacts the fan speed depends how close you are to speed thresholds and how much difference there is to be gained from a repaste.

If there is some along with being near a tipping point in the fan profile then it can have an impact, if you are in the middle of a fan speed area (EG say the fan is 40% at 50C and 60% at 70C, and you are at 60C) then it wont so much.
