I sent my 5790 with the overheating issue back to Sager yesterday for a refund. I'm getting ready to re-order, and having read quite a bit through this forum since placing my initial order, I think I'll order from Xotic PC this time.

    1. I had ordered the T7700 2.4ghz processor in the first one. I've not seen anyone mention this one, could it be causing the excess heat? I'd rather order it again.

    2. I ordered the WUXGA glossy screen on the first one, loved the resolution, hated the glare. Opinions on switching to the WSXGA? I game sometimes (EQ2) but mostly do photography editing (Photoshop, Lightroom) and work with digitizing and embroidery software.

    3. Which of the option 7200rpm drives is the SeaGate? I hear it runs a bit cooler. I wanted to order the 160gb 7200rpm drive, but brands aren't listed.

    4. Last, when I try and choose the NVidia 8700 graphics card from Xotic, it selects it, but my cart keeps defaulting to the 7950. I would prefer the 8700. It also lists the 7950 as DDR2. I've posted the cart below.

Since the white trim isn't due out til mid - September, I thought I'd pre-order and use my parents address for shipping... but request that I be contacted prior to shipping for an actual address, we should be parked somewhere in our RV by then. Right now I have no idea where that will be.

    Hello! :)

    1. The 5790 can fully support the T7700. From the investment side the T7300 or T7500 are the best bang for the buck.

    2. You can switch to the WSXGA Matte, however there is a slight delay on this screen until the first part of September. If you are not fond of the glare type display, the WSXGA matte would be your ideal selection.

    3. Currently Sager is not using specific brand hard drives consistently. For 160GB they use Hitachi or Seagate.

    4. In your configuration below the 8700 is selected. The 7950GTX notation is only in the title of the item, you have configured it with the 8700GT.

If I can help with anything further, please ask :)

Thank you Justin. Since I'm ordering with the white trim option, which isn't available until mid September, is the matte screen going to make any difference?

Also, in the comments box on my order, I'm requesting to be notified prior to shipping for an alternate shipping address, as we are fulltime RV'ers and I've no clue where we will be come Septmber. Will this be a problem (like being overlooked, and sent to my billing address, LOL)?

If you plan on waiting for the white trim, the WSXGA Matte will not be a problem :) That is fine, please place the note in our comment box. We can ship to alternate addresses if needed.

If you have some more questions on our processing please email me direct at the email address below :)

in retrospect I wish I would've ordered from Xoticpc rather than direct from sager. The customer service seem superior.

I decided I really couldn't wait until the end of September, so I went ahead and reordered the 5790 via Xotic this morning, with the glossy screen and the 8700 card.

However, I had to add to my comments only to place the order if it could be built and shipped (I chose 1 day shipping) within a week, in order for us to get it before leaving this RV park, AND since they won't ship to an address other than a billing address without adding the alternate address to your credit card, I also requested the more typical method of sending a copy of my drivers license and credit card front and back.

So I'm waiting for a response. The way my luck's been going, they probably can't do it. But I can always hope! Every time I've had a company ask about adding a shipping address to my card, they've complied with the driver's license/CC copies happily instead, on occasion requesting an authorization form (which is what Sager direct did).

After having my hands on the 5790 briefly, no other laptop will do! :D
