Wanting a new optical drive for my D901C. What should i be looking for? Slimline SATA? Slimline PATA? Or something a little more specialist?

If my memory is correct, I believe that model is a PATA ODD. You will want a slimline drive.

    So something like this one?

    Samsung DVD-RW 8x Slim Slot-loading Black (SN-T082A/BEBE) - dabs.com

Had (YET ANOTHER) hard drive just fail and always found by DVD drive very noisy and the area get quite hot even when not in use so thought I may as well replace it at the same time too. Currently running off a Linux Live CD but guess it would make sense to shut down, remove the drive and make sure. Just takes a while to then get everything back as I want it (rather than using Suspend mode) afterwards...

Can you post a photo for the connector to be sure if it's SATA or PATA ?

Yeah looks like it is an IDE/PATA. Original was a Toshiba TS-L632 to be precise. Thanks for trying to help, had hoped I could get the answer without powering down the lappy.
