    Greetings,

I have a P170EM whose 7970M stopped working two years ago. I ended up storing the laptop, as the replacement at the time was quite expensive.

Recently, I found a cheap card on eBay, which, according to the seller, was tested and working on a p150sm. After installing it on my pc, it is recognized, and the laptop boots; however, it starts beeping and flashing the lights and, after about 1 minute, it shuts down.

From what I've seen, this is due to the temperature of the GPU not being read by the laptop's BIOS. The BIOS detects the GPU correctly, and from what I've seen it is virtually identical to the other one I had. Any idea on how to solve the problem?

Either way the seller lied to you.

Either the card is an Alienware card or is broken.
