    Hi folks.

It's been a few months since I was last on here, but I'm back because I have another issue with this damned laptop... the left lcd hinge has broken. The fact that they seem to be made out of cast iron is a tad rediculous as well.

I think I saw someone else with the same topic just recently, however, as I'm located in the UK I'm having no luck sourcing a replacement whatsoever. (The problem is exactly like that shown in Luckyfoot's picture from Jaredmccoy's thread on the same issue).

Could anyone help out by either suggesting a could location to obtain them from (out of warranty btw), or by suggesting any hinges from different model laptops that could serve as a potential replacement, with or without jimmy-rigging. I've only found one in the UK, which is from a seller on ebay for £50 for just one hinge ($80-ish)... I'd think more than twice about paying that much for a pair, let alone one. I would consider buying from the states if there's a decent source over there.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks very much!

p.s. Has anyone been able to get their m570ru memory card reader to work with x64 windows 7? The drivers from clevo are outdated and don't seem to work for me at all, leaving the card reader out of action :(

    Thanks for the link.

Found the hinges on their site. $45 seems a bit steep just for a single hinge. Am I wrong, or is this what I should expect to be paying?

    Thanks again.

With regards to the the memory card reader and LuckyFoot, I've just performed a driver search using windows update and still nothing. Under the "Other Devices" type in Device Manager, it show 2 "PCI FLASH Memory" and 1 "USB 2.0" device as not having any drivers - I have no problems with any of my usb ports though, just the mem card readers. Weirdly annoying that is.

I ordered mine from sager and it was $30 for BOTH the left and right. But then they nailed me with $18 for standard shipping which seemed high.

You can get an entire barebones (w/ 1920x1200 lcd, 8700m gt, DVDRW and BT) on ebay for $370... (also includes battery and power brick)

The same with an 8800m gtx is $550. I just bought one of these and I'm going to put in my old processor (T9300), wifi (4965), RAM (4GB OEM), and HDD (Seagate 200bg 7200rpm), and have the same notebook I paid $3200 back in Mar 07 for only $550 (minus the Blu Ray drive). The funny thing is, someone on ebay is trying to sell a brand new 8800m gtx by itself for $600! That is some messed up math.

Of course, there is no warranty for these barebones and their components.

Have you tried contacting kobalt about a hinge?

Win7 x64 card reader driver here. It's actually for Vista64, but works fine for me in 7.
