    Hi,

    I have a Clevo P170EM with a 7970M.

The screws holding the heat-sink on the 7970M are almost stripped and need to be replaced.

I have looked at a lot of local electronic stores, but the screws required for this laptop are very small and not easily available.

Contacting reseller(ComputerUpgradeKing), they said they do not have 7970m screws in stock and that I should contact Clevo.

I have sent an email to Clevo , but I have not received any response yet.
I have also searched at Amazon and Ebay but could not find screws that fit.

My GPU is heating up and I need to do a repaste. However without replacing the stripped screws, it is not possible.

Please let me know, if there is a place (online only) I can buy these screws from.
Any reseller out there who can help me buying these screws ?

    Thanks.

Try contacting 7970m sellers on ebay. The price might be high (my guess would be around $20), but you might just get lucky there. For future - you don't have to screw your heatsink down so tight that it strips screw heads. Just stop when you feel resistance. It won't help your temps either due to construction of the heatsink.

I bought a 680m barebone last week from these guys and they included a new set of screws with it.

You can shoot an email to [email protected] to see if they can get them for you. If its not a Sager branded computer they may not sell them. Mythlogic may be able to hook you up as well, send them a PM.

@4st3risk Thx for the advice. This is my first gaming laptop and I when it comes to hardware , I have two left feet. I am still learning hopefully, I will not make this mistake again.

@Hutsady Mine is not SAGER branded, but I will send them an email and see what happens. I will also send a PM to Mythlogic. Hopefully they will be able to help

@Prostar Will call them tomorrow and find out.

I have found this on ebay :

VGA Heatsink Screws Matched SET OF 4 2 Bonus | eBay

These look like they will fit. I am quite terrible with hardware, can any of you experts let me know, if that would work.

Its around $20 for shipping, so It that is good, I will buy 2 sets to save on shipping.

    Thanks

Edit : The listing says the screws are for MXM 3.0b . 7970m appears to be a MXM 3.0b card. I have just placed an order for these. Hopefully I made the right choice.

Got new screws from my reseller in germany.. price => Nothing / 0 € no delivery costs etc.... this is service! Taking 20$ for screws which maybe cost 2$ for producing is cheeky.

I ordered the same screws for my NP9377-S just now.

As for the comments about not stripping the screws... Mine were on so tight that they started to strip when I took them off.

It was not cheap (I bought 2 sets - $16.89 including the shipping) but now I don't have to worry about it.

Hopefully they get here quickly. Estimated delivery is the 9th. After just repasting with MX4 and finding worse temperatures than stock, I ordered some IC Diamond to go with them but that will be here Thursday thanks to Amazon.

Checked the mail today and these were in there.

They came from Eurocom and they were nice enough to even include two GPU back plates in the envelope, something that wasn't in the description - I'm assuming they sent that in case the screws don't fit, very nice touch but they look like exactly the same screws that are in the laptop so they shouldn't be an issue. I don't feel like doing my repasting right now but I'll let you guys know how it goes tomorrow.
