so i bought my laptop about 3 years ago. has served me well until recently. started giving me problems a couple months back and basically wont even start anymore. ive wanted to upgrade it for a while and now seems to be the perfect time.

here are my specs - i havent changed or replaced anything:

    PRODUCT Clevo D900C Notebook
    Intel® Conroe Processor: Intel® E6600 Conroe
    Processor 2.4GHz/4MB/1066FSB
    Display: 17" 1920 x 1200 WUXGA GlassView LCD,
    Super-Wide Viewing Angles
    Video: NVidia GeForce GO 7950GTX 512MB DDR3
    DDR2 Memory: 2GB DDR2-5300 (1 x 2GB)
SATA Notebook Hard Drive: Hitachi 160GB 5400RPM

so i was looking to replace the GPU and possibly CPU. i havent kept up with technology the past couple years, so now that im throwin myself back into it, im kinda lost.
i was looking at the nvidia geforce gtx 260 and 460 cards (i found them for around the same price). any other suggestions are more than welcome. i would really appreciate any input - im kind of on a budget and definitely dont want to spend more (less is welcome :)).

the questions i have are: will these cards fit my laptop? will i need to also replace my CPU for a new GPU? also, any other problems i may have?

i dont want to replace the machine, since a whole new laptop would be quite pricey and im still in school and broke.

sorry for the long read. i really appreciate any comments. thanks.

I think it depends on what motherboard revision you have. Try to post that first.

As far as I know, the best single GPU you can put in there is a GTX 280M MXM 2.1 or a GTX 260M also MXM versions 2.1. For a SLI configuration you can go for a dual 9800M GTX setup. Other cards that will fit in there are 9800M GTS or the 8800M/9800M GT. Nothing newer than the 280M MXM versions 2.1 will fit in that laptop.

The best option (price preformance) is the g260m if it fits your motherboard. I is half the price of a 9800m gtx. All laptop video cards are expensive.

edit: just realized i posted the wrong reivision number

    the right one is 5.1A

also noticed a while ago that i ordered a 2GB RAM stick with the laptop and they installed 2 1GB sticks instead. real shady.

You can put any cpu with socket LGA 775 and max TDP 95W (I won’t risk go over it) but be aware that 1333Mhz FSB Cpu's will work at 1066Mhz (ex: Q9300 2.5 Ghz will work at 2Ghz). About the GPU that revision will not support SLI over 7950GTX, the best card would be a 280M (rev 2.1), but a good cheaper choice would be the 9800M GT or 260M.

Yes, if you buy a used one you can get it cheaper.

thanks for all the updates, guys.

i just bought that card because their was only about an hour left with 2 offers already in. the price seemed too good to be true. since its a highly rated seller, im hoping itll be fine though. incase anyone is wondering, i paid $183 with tax and shipping.

im going to upgrade to 4 GB of RAM and windows 7 64-bit and see how it all works out. not sure if i should update the CPU right now. maybe ill see how its holding up with new GPU and RAM upgrade. thanks again everybody.

it is cheap because it is used and you get only one month warranty.

It's also because it's a Quadro, surprisingly quadro cards actually have a smaller resale value than normal gaming cards.

I believe niffcreature bought one card from that seller, he said it worked fine.
I also bought one off him a couple of days ago.

I'm not nervous about the seller, I'm nervous about the card working in my GT627 since I don't have the HE tab.

thanks for putting my mind at ease a bit. i checked mxm-upgrade for you, but they dont have that laptop on their compatibility table - you can always contact them and make sure beforehand, like pasoleatis suggested i do. best of luck to you.

    Hello.
But what about v5.0A motherboard revision? I can install FX3700?
and I can install CPU quad core? (like a Q6700, Q9650 etc)
