I talked with someone about the problems with my keyboard on my laptop and it was suggested that I replace it with a new one. I have the replacement board but I'm unsure of how to install the thing.
I had asked this question previously but I'll still ask it again; will doing this myself (or having a techy friend do it for me) void the warranty? I still have 2 years left on the computer.
Thanks for the help.

if you break it, warranty may be in jeopardy of being voided, but it should be fairly easy for you to switchout...
you can always call and ask first if you like. -
the keyboard is the simplest swap.
no screws or anything, just 4-5 retractable latches on top of the keyboard.
my D900K has them on top of the following keys:
ESC, F6, PRT SC, and * (from the numpad)
just press down those retractable latches with a small flathead screw driver
- then carefully disconnect the keyboard cable from the motherboard
- then do the swap
that should be it. -
The best way to protect yourself in this situation is to simply photograph everything before, during, and after you do the swap, write down each step of what you do - take a picture after each step - and then have someone sign a statement that they saw all of the pictures and written steps as of the date that you did the work or immediately thereafter (i.e., to prove that you didn't make the whole thing up long after you did the actual work just to overcome an objection on your warranty).
With these systems in particular, the OEMs/Resellers expect owners to do a certain amount of opening up and swapping of components, which is why, for example, the GPUs are listed as being "user upgradeable" - that means that the owner can swap out GPUs. Swapping a keyboard is much less delicate than swapping a GPU, so I cannot imagine you would have warranty trouble unless you decided to do the whole thing with a blindfold on while you were drunk.
