Greetings,
I have a busted LCD on my laptop and am seeking to replace it. I've only been able to come across LCD's for Clevo PortaNote D900K so my question is a two fold one.
1. Would a LCD for the D900K go into a M570RU?
2. If not, anyclue where I would find a 17" WUXGA replacement for a M570RU
Any help that can be offered would be most appreciated.

Welcome to the NBR forums.
if you want a straight replacement, then physically remove the LCD casing and find it.
I am confident that its a LG.Philips LP171WU1.
Most of the 17" 1920x1200 notebooks use this panel... a few with Samsung.
just look at the sticker on teh back of the LCD panel and you will know what to order. -
yes its a lg lp171wu1. lmk if you have any questions
-
Thank you both for the replies, it was indeed the panel you listed. I don't know why I hadn't thought to open it up and see if it was listed but will definitely remember that for the future!
Going to order a new one and I'll update how that goes as well. -
look for the tl a2 version imo its the best one of them
-
The one that I am replacing is a (A4) (K4) and I know it may be yet another silly question from me but what does it signify? I gather it tells whether it is a glossy or not. There's a price difference between the models as well so I'm guessing it also tells if it's newer/older version.
Only other question I can think is are there any specific sites that one should avoid (bad reputation, crappy products, etc)? -
Anyone know of a website I should use? lcds4less.com is worthless as far as I'm concerned. It took over a week to get a response about whether they had the panel in stock. This includes several phonecalls and numerous emails. The response was 'don't have in stock, contact LG'. This from someone who is supposed to be 'well-informed' about their products. LG doesn't deal directly with customers from what I've found out.
In short is laptoplcdstore.com a reputable dealer? They seem to at least lack the Byzantine ordering process that other site had. -
smartmicrousa is who i recc. if you want to go through ebay i can recc a seller as well
-
I may have ran into a bit of a snag. I went through smartmicrousa and got the LCD here pretty fast. I also went with the TL A2 version recommended, but the problem I'm having is getting it in.
The one that arrived had an inverter attached to it. The problem is I can't see how to remove it so I can use the inverter still in the laptop. Using the inverter on the new one isn't really an option for two reasons. First the wire from the laptop that plugs into the old one seems to be using a different male/female than the inverter included with the new one. Second the new one has it in the middle and the old one is more towards the right hand side. I'm at a loss here as I don't know where to proceed from here. -
you might be able to use the inverter already in your notebook.
if it powers on ok and you do not have any issues, then it should be fine. -
That's what I was going to try, but the problem is getting the panel into the laptop. The new one has the inverter attached to it. I can remove it from the metal pocket, but the pocket seems to be attached to the panel and I can't see how to remove it other than attempting to break it off. With that attached it will not go into the laptop as the laptop has a ledge the panel is to rest upon blocking where the inverter (on the new one).
On the old one (the one needing replacing) the inverter wasn't attached to it. Instead it was attached to the laptop with a screw and was located in the lower right portion. The new one is in the middle, attached to the panel, and thus being blocked.
Should I attempt to just hook it up without it installed and see if it powers the monitor? And if so if it works I'm still at a loss to resolve the installing part. I'm assuming there's something really simple that I'm just missing. -
the bracket comes off really easy. just use the old inverter its the same thing just not in the bracket just use a really small flathead and the bracket (be gentle will come right off) there are different versions of the tl a2 if you told them which laptop you had they should have sent the one without the bracket but as i said it comes off really easy. other than that it will mount the same way. and then use the new inverter or the old one your choice (the old one WILL power the new screen fine) mounted the way the old screen was. i do this all the time.. you will love the tl a2 though i promise it is so much nicer than the a4 ones wait and see
what do you mean hook it up to see if it powers the monitor. it will power it up fine?? -
also if you need help pm me and let me know..
-
First let me apologize for the delay. The usual holiday stress showed up a bit early this time (HA).
Now for the update. The new screen is up and running after one last additional snag which was related to the one right before this one. I want to give a BIG THANK YOU to zfactor as you was 100% right on the bracket. I suspected that it would be something like that but was afraid to take the plunge and be wrong.
The additional snag was at the top of the panel was two small thin pieces of metal where it was to be screwed into the case. They was just ever so slightly lower than where I needed them to be. Remembering zfactor's post I realized it was probably due to the same issue as the inverter/bracket, and they was easily bent out of the way.
I also want to thank Gophn who posted with advice and help. I appreciated it all, and as a long time (allright, only about a year or so) lurker I'm glad my first post o'help turned out so well. It was on advice from this forum that I chose that model of laptop, it was only fitting it also solved it's biggest obstacle to date!
Sidenote: Next panel I order I'll talk to an actual person when ordering so as to get the appropriate version. Made the mistake of just using the online ordering process. Though, they did have an 'additional comments' section where I could have said what laptop it was for. Experience learned! -
so how does it look compared to the old one? and im so glad you got it going
-
Oh it's beautiful! There was a brief readjustment period to get used to a LCD monitor again. (I'm a cheap arse and still running an old CRT on my desktop. ha). After a day though I was able to fully appreciate the new panel and once again mock my CRT.
From what I can tell it seems better than the old LCD. The viewing angle seems to be a little more wider (let me look from the side or so). So far I'm loving it -
probably no grain either lol the a4 series were know for grain
-
Just checked mine it´s a A4 (K5)...........
-
I would like to ask you which is the LCD (fixable in a M570RU) with the minimum response time.
I have a "LPL0BA" is it better or worse of the LP171WU1 ?
Thanks -
I had LPL0BA also on my ex Sager and I considered it to be a great screen...
-
I like it for its colors, but I see too ghosts..
However it seems that LPL0BA is a "version" of LP171WU1..
Maybe zfactor can inform us about this, and if there are better monitors in respons time.. -
lpl0ba is a version of the lp171wu3 not the wu1. the wu1 is for sure the better screen but only certain versions of it. imo the best is the tl a2 but it requires some minor mods to fit in the 570ru. you should not see ghosts. if you do it may be a few things. driver issue, cable etc.. i would personally try to do a fresh driver install and make sure to clean out the old on for sure. if not check the display cable to make sure its seated right.
try a external display and see if you see the same on that if you do that could tell you if its something other than the lcd itself
the wu3 is still imo one of the best 17" screens far better than most others are. i can make some recc's on others also if you decide to change it out. i can also offer the wu1 tl a2 already modded if someone ever needs. -
Which are the characteristics of my display?
I have a very good view and I notice the ghost of the ball in PES for example and in other places like fast moving things..
When I attach it to a samsung 2ms it is perfect..
I don't want to change it if there isn't anything faster..
However I don't understand what "tl a2" means
Thanks -
tl a2 is a version of the lp171wu1. there are mant different lp171wu1's not just one. there are tl-a1, tl-a2, tl-a3, tl-a4, tl-a5, then there are a4-k4 and variations of the a4 ones.. etc...
ill post the specs for your display hang on -

go to notebook panels and you will see the lp171wu3 -
Hello people, just got my Clevo M570TU from a local store (AHTEC) here in Spain, I ordered the Matte 1440x900 screen and I'm a bit disappointed by looking at it because on a black background i can see a light 'leakage' on the bottom and I think the quality of the screen is not too good. Is there a way that i can see the screen brand without taking it apart (maybe a windows program to get the screen specs). And other question, has anybody thought of replacing this TFT screen with an equivalent LED (like the latest MacBooks) one? they should be expensive but I would appreciate if anyone has thought of this and can shed some light (manufacturers, possibility of putting an LCD screen on the M570TU).
Thanks in advance. -
Thanks for the infos zfactor!
I think I see all the 16ms comparing to a 2ms... -
-
Yep, theriko, I meant LED (Light Emitting Diode I guess is the name) Its the display technology used by Apple Macbooks since 2007 and the one that will be used in the Clevo models that will be launched mid2009 (supposedly).
BTW, here is a page i found that describes the appearance and 'smear' of the screen i have: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=328710
Cheers. -
Wow, I'm unlucky, as I thought the LCD panel of my new CLEVO is indeed a AU Optronics part, PCWizard 2008 reports:
Manufacturer: AUO
Product ID: AUO3387
Manufacture: Week 1 of 2005 (!)
Max Resolution: 1440 x 900 @ 59hz (That's a low freq!)
I'm deeply dissapointed with this screen, the viewing angles are bad, even looking at it from the front the brightness is uneven on the whole screen.
I think about replacing it, will talk to the seller if they can change this part but I dunno, in any case, anybody has ideas how much a replacement panel from a good brand would cost me? (Just have spent 1700 euros on this computer), the blame is on AHTEC the barebone assembler who uses old and bad screens... GRRRR!!!
Anybody know if a simple guy can buy a LED panel to replace this? -
why are you saying 59Hz is a low frequency?
You can bump it up to 60Hz by using custom resolutions (although 60 should be the standard) but you won't get any laptop screen faster than that... -
^^^ exactly just use a custom res it works fine..
