I have a w870cu and there are a clump of dead pixels, how hard is it to replace the screen, I downloaded the service manual but there aren't any instructions. I'm assuming it'll cost around $200 for the part, speaking of which are there better 17 1080p screen that use instead? Thanks!

Taking the screen out should be a no brainer really... There are some rubber plugs around the screen that you will pop out then remove the screws behind those.. At that point you will take a plastic wedge of sorts i used a credit card in the past on other machines which works fine and there will be plastic clasps holding the bezel to the lid that you will pop apart...

There are 2 screens i believe one is the Hannstar and the other is an AUO screen which im sure some members on this forum have the part number for....

Do you, by chance, know someone who successfully disassembled E2E displays (M17X-R1/R2)? I'm looking for a way to remove the plastic E2E cover and install an anti glare screen instead.

Only person i know that took an E2E apart was Witcher4360 but he never actually removed the glass he just removed the screen from inside the glass....

That would require some serious work for what your talking about as i had taken apart my LCD from the M17x(removed the lid etc) when i had it and the way the whole panel is designed is rather strange and all sorta 1 piece or its all glued together very carefully...

You can easily get to your screen if your bored one day though and take a look yourself to get an idea of what your up against if you have not already that is....

Thanx, Quad. I'll ask Witcher then.
Actually, removing the screen from inside the glass would be a very good start. Next, I'll need to cut a frame out and insert a new panel. Will probably buy another lid assembly for experiments. Eventually, I'd like to land a Dream Color 2 IPS screen inside... Dreams...
