How hard is it to throw in another RAM stick and a M.2 SSD in the 650SE/650SG?

Thinking about going with the 8gb (1 stick) and then popping in another one to save myself $30. Then grabbing a 500gb Samsung Evo M.2 for $180 (spending $30 more, but getting double the storage).

Would I need to remove any other components?

On a side note is the 980M worth the upgrade over the 970M between the two models?
    It's about a $340 difference..

It is very easy to put in another stick of RAM and add a M.2 SSD. You would not need to remove any other components other than the bottom of the laptop and maybe the keyboard if they put the one RAM stick under there. You could ask to see how much you would save if the seller was able to not include any RAM and if you purchased it on your own.

The difference between a 980M and a 970M is 20-30%. It comes down to personal preference if you need that extra power and the longevity it provides.

XoticPC doesn't give an option for zero ram.. I would need to ask I guess. They offer the NP8651-S that is such a good deal it almost doesn't pay for me to go out and by it myself.. The extra ram and the 500gb SSD.. Crazy right?!

As for the 970M v 980M being 20-30% more.. I am looking for longevity over extra power, but at the cost of $330? Worth it?

The 980M will maintain 1080p gaming for a fair bit longer.

You can see here all the parts available under the bottom cover:

It depends a little bit on how often you like to upgrade your computer, to some extent. If you upgrade your computer every couple of years, then the 970m should be fine during that time frame. but if you want to get the most out of your computer for long periods, then that extra $330 would help extend the life span out longer before it struggles, compared to the 970m.

You do at least get the performance you pay for.
