I am wondering how much power a np9150 is pulling from the wall while idle, web browsing, and gaming. I know it is a 180w PSU, but unless you are completely maxed out with everything that seems hard to believe it is going to pull that much power.

Please post specs, brightness, and general taskings you are doing for each wattage reading to give people an idea where we all stand on this beast.

I am wondering if this computer is too much of a power draw to be worth wild while traveling. Not sure how much power is supplied from Airplane plugs, but I know my truck only has a 150w AC plug and I would have to replace it or buy a 200w 12-15dc cigarette lighter inverter.

Most airplane plugs are 75w a few airlines have 125w in first/business class, however, even a 9130 will trip those breakers. I recently flew to Sweden via First Class and I can tell you that it would not work with my 8150, the brick would turn on but as soon as it was connected to the laptop the outlet would turn itself off even if the laptop was off or idle. I think you would have to go down to a GT650m laptop to be able to use it on an airplane(W150ER/W110ER).

A sager gaming laptop is not something that is airplane friendly.

Ha! Airplanes need to fix that issue. Those levels are super low power ratings for any personal electronics.

I bet you could charge your sager while it's off with those levels and use it on battery power, gaming you might get an hour or two depending but normal web/document use you could get 3-4 hours on battery.

Now that I have my np9150 and a belkin killa watt meter i am very surprised I am only getting 135w or so peak and about 100w average when playing games and 40-60w with just the desktop with a 670m and i7 3620. Backlit keyboard is at brightest and so is the 95% gamut screen. I would have thought that with such a large PSU that the pull would be so much greater. This means I can find a small 120w or 150w PSU to travel with.

Anyone else get a peak and average wattage on theirs?

If nothing is really over 150w why is there a 180w PSU?!? Does the 680m or 7970 pull alot more power then the 670m?

Overclocked I am seeing 170W-195W from the wall.

*looks at sig* Yep, changed it, why do you think I have a 670M?

If you have a max 150W outlet then you can only use a 120W machine with it since you also have to take into account PSU wastage.

    150W system usage + 20W PSU wastage = 170W wall usage.

You never want to run your PSU at peak power draw, it'll kill it quickly. Normal draw should be between 20-80% of rated power. Plus these are rated for 90% efficiency up to 90% of rated power draw so 180W + 10% ~ 200W draw from the wall. 150W ~ 75% of the 180W PSU's rating. I wouldn't go much higher than 170W consistently though. If you do, consider a 220W brick.
