Can someone please list resellers that delid?
-
I think there is a list somewhere but I couldn't find it.
Anyway, off the top of my head:
- we do
- ObsidianPC
- HID Evolution -

If intel really don't want to change the paste they should have the lid use a clamped mechanism on the K series so you can just take it off.
This is one they should not fight and embrace IMO. -
Syspack also makes that and they also use Liquid metal
-
Cool thanks!

I know this is probably pretty useless info since it's a P170EM buuuuuuuut I recently (re)discovered my i7-3720QM was delidded... but yeah, this is a Q3 2012 laptop though so obviously take this with a pinch of salt as it may not be representative of current goings ons.
This was purchased from PC Specialist (PCS) in the UK fyi (Sep 2012). -
3720QM is a mobile CPU.
All mobile CPUs are "delided" , they don't use an IHS like the desktop CPUs. -
XD Sorry! In my defence, this was later at night and my long hours at work mean I'm a little tired when I get home... You are quite right though.

Not a chance, I got my P870tm from them and they won't do anything other than upgrade the paste. They won't even let you get it done else where or your warranty is void. It's a shame they won't embrace upgrades like most the other resellers as they are the main distrebuter of clevo in the UK.dm477 likes this.

The UK is a pretty tough market to operate in to be fair, most of the places trying to offer something different tend to fail.
-
yeah I don't know why, maybe were all too tight to spend money on laptops
I would love a reseller like hid in the UK. -
I don't think that is the reason. Every bloody thing under the sun is more expensive in blighty compared to the continent and north America! From what I understand, PC Specialist is the primary distributor for Clevo machines in UK and any time you send your machine for warranty repairs, it goes straight to them. That is what Scan people told me anyway. And if they don't want to deal with delid, then chances are that your reseller will not offer that option.
-
It's true they are the main supplier. It's where mine came from and you are right they set the terms for all clevo sellers in the UK so if they say no delid then no other clevo sellers can do it. Price wise I think with the weak pound then stuff is fairly cheap when I priced a single 1080 P870tm from Europe and America it was the same price as what PCspecialst charged me for a P870tm with SLI 1080. Its just a shame that they don't go further with there stuff I mean they sell themselves as the kings of gaming and overclocking but then run a mile when asked for a delid which seem standard practise for enthusiast computers.dm477 likes this.

do you offer delidded cpus?

No, as you can see on our website we don't. -
Good point. I just checked their prices, and their 1080SLI/8700K configs are actually cheaper than Obsidian and XMG, probably the two best resellers in Europe. But then again, without proper cooling solutions, the thing will fry itself. How are temps holding up in your machine? Like I said, that 1080 SLI for £3000 is good "value" but thermal performance coupled with their rather dodgy customer service gives me pause. @madeinholt had dealings with them and had to put up with lot of frustration.
How are your temperatures without the delid? You got a pretty hefty config there. -
Is it for Intel warranty policies?
-

My machine is heavily modified as I have removed a fair amount of the power limits etc.
That and relations with Intel themselves which Clevo relies upon. -
This is not correct. PC Specialist are ONE supplier/importer, but there are many more who also purchase directly from Clevo in the UK. One company (the "seller") offering a delidded CPU has no bearing on what the company which carries out repairs will do, unless the seller voids its warranty with the builder by delidding.
- the "supplier" might purchase direct from Clevo. They may sell barebones to "sellers", they might sell barebones and components for a seller to build, they might build the whole system to order based on the "sellers" customer specification.
- under warranty, the "seller" might have an agreement to return to the supplier, they might carry out repairs and tech support themselves, or they or the supplier might use the local Clevo Service Center.
Note to mods - I've been careful not to comment about the other companies directly, hope the post is ok as it only serves to clarify the nbr members understanding. -
Well I searched high and low and couldn't find any other supplier in the UK for clevo laptops. And I couldn't find one willing to delid. It would be great if we had one I'm guessing our enthusiast market isn't so big??
-
Most of them don't buy direct from clevo and most of them aren't even stocking the latest clevo releases.
My last post was a bit misleading. I was responding more to XMG comment about UK sellers and delidding, that I searched ages and couldn't find any that offer anything like some of the American and European seller's, even PCS only offer a paste upgrade.dm477 likes this. -
Also, Fortune Technology is a subsidiary of PCS and only sells to businesses.

there is also Eurocom now
