Argh. Been looking at this machine for a while, but I am hesitant to decide on one. The main issues I have are these:

    - Battery life is reportedly significantly worse than on something similar (ie the Alienware m14x)
    - Sound quality is apparently very sub par
    - Heating issues
    - The Nvidia gt555 in this machine isnt the best gt555 variant there is

Aside from that, I love the aesthetics, the barebones appeal, the screen options, etc.

I love the look of this machine.

Regardless, I would probably go with the Alienware, but I cannot stand the designs Alienware comes up with. That thing is hideous. Plus they cant resist coating it in lights and logos.

What do you guys think? Has anyone found anything similar but better than the NP5165 from any other manufacturers? Are my concerns unfounded?

Your concerns are indeed founded but no matter what you get there will always be another model that did something better but lacked in another.

Set your priorities on whats most important (performance, battery, aesthetics, etc) and pick the one that gets the most points, nothing will get everything you want.
