The 3dmark vantage shows less than 10% of boost from my slightly OC'ed 8800, very disappointed as expected.

    hmmmm ...

looks like them 1730 with them 9800GTX sli will beat a setup with 1 GTX 280M ...

    is that correct ???

would it be that them 1730 are now more entising then ever ???

A better comparison would be sli 9800m gtx vs. sli gtx280m. D901 is faster than m1730.

by how much faster or superior is the D900s over the 1730 ???

personally i feel that the 1730 because of its warranty coverage offers a better deal ... and peace of mind ...

I am over in the east ... and here we dont have clevo or sager retailers ...

so i feel that a dell would be a safer bet ...

There are a few Sager retailers. Have fun with those.

The 1730's a good choice if you're worried about warranty coverage. It should take them a lot quicker to fix issues as they should have the parts available.

As for performance of the GTX 280m, I wouldn't put too much emphasis on the review.

Notebookcheck has time and time again failed to provide real world reviews on hardware. I wouldn't trust them any further than I can throw them.

If you want an idea of how it's going to perform, just look at the Quadro 3700M (Identical sans the 55nm die shrink)and scale the clocks accordingly.

    I'd expect a 10-15% boost over the 9800GTX

not so great scores but then again these new gpu's are cheaper than the previous generation so it's not all that bad.

True, better clocks, die shrinks, cheap entry price...

In the end, unless end users want 4" thick laptops and/or 20" screens, they will continue to hit these walls and performance will be in small increments.

Still, 10K+ Vantage score and 15k+ 06 scores on the W90Vp are in line with many desktop rigs running newer cards (albeit in single sometimes).
