Lately, my keyboard has been acting up. I know it's easily replaceable, so I'm not too worried about that. What bothers me though is the right click on my touchpad. It seems as if there's something underneath it, because it makes a sort of a crunchy sound. I can kind of guess where this stemmed from - I opened a 2L 7-up like 10 feet away from my laptop, but I guess teh dude who restacked the soda from where I bought it dropped it, and hence it spurted all over the room. Some fell on my laptop (I forgot to close it, so...)

How can I clean up my internals? What would I use? I don't mind shelling out some money for a handheld vaccuum, preferably one that is really strong. Like this, I guess. There is also dust in the ridges, and the "hole" where lock latches onto - it looks really dirty. I just want to make it look as good as new and give a thorough cleaning.

    Help appreciated. A lot. :D

Once cleaned, I might just perch it atop a Logitech Alto :D

A vacuum is not going to remove the stickiness left behind by the soda. I would try taking out the keyboard, using cotton swabs or something else that is very thin, soaking it in rubbing alcohol and try to get it under the keys of the keyboard. As far as the touchpad goes, I think you may just have to let the stickiness wear off on its own.

I'm pretty sure that it's the offspring of the soda event, but I'm experiencing the following problems:

    1) Sometimes, without any warning, when I'm typing, the right click context menu pops up. I have to hit escape for it to go away.
    2) The right click just keeps popping up for no reason at all. I don't even have to do anything - it just pops up.

I'm going to give it a thorough cleaning this weekend when I have the time. Is a keyboard replacement suggested? I wonder if all the right clickies are being triggered by the touchpad...

the keyboard is a different component than the touchpad and clickers.

so its the touchpad's right-click thats doing this?
or the context key on the keyboard?

You can clean the keyboard much easier than the touchpad (including the buttons)

I'll get back to you on that one. But what really bugs me is the right click. I have this gut feeling that something ain't right under there.

I cleaned my keyboard and the problem went away for a while, but it started coming up again after half an hour or so. Do you think I should really replace the keyboard?

contact your reseller, check if they can replace it for you... dont tell them that something is weird with the keyboard.

then ask for the cost of a replacement, its simple to remove and install, so they can cross-ship you the keyboard, while you send the other one to them.

I had asked them before how much a spare keyboard would cost; it's about $55. But I don't have a warranty, so I have to pay the full price I believe

it should have a standard 1 year warranty

... which probably wont cover accidents, but they dont have to know ;)
