So its my 2nd day with my m860tu and i can feel alot of heat under my righth and when i type. is that the HD heating thing i've heard about? What do i do about it? Is it something i just have to deal with?

Its really not that hot, even if my hard disk hits 60 its not that bad, can easily put up with it. Generally my hard disk stays in the 46-55 range, it drops lower but really depends on the ambient temperature. And when typing your not meant to rest your hands on the pad anyway so meh...
The reason you can feel the heat so much is that the surface of your laptop is metal, its bound to conduct and allow u to feel the heat more than a plastic one. -
My previous notebook run a 5400RPM HDD with plastic palm rest idle @ 40+ and load @ 50+, the NP8660's palm rest area definitely feel cooler despite of its 7200RPM HDD idle @ 50+ and load @ 60+. I'l say it did a good job with the cooling.
I've my NP8660 for a week or so and it always topping @ 60+- during gaming season and yet to give me any problem. So don't worry about it. -

I suppose you could also wear some fingerless gloves like these: http://www.mcuniverse.com/Fingerless-Computer-Gloves.1825.0.html -
I believe we went over this on a couple of other M860TU threads.

Its the chipset heatsink, the CPU, RAM, and the Turbo Memory that is under the right side of this notebook... not the HDD. -
I see, thanks for correcting.

But the HD is the only one that will not be cooled properly, so that's what shows up as hot if you run, say CPUID HW Monitor to check temps. Get a cooler like the Zalman NC2000 and you'll never worry about the laptop feeling warm, even in warm surrounding temps and the summer (it decreased my temps 10-12 degrees).

For this laptop, I'd recommend the Antec Notebook Cooler (not the S version). So far its proven to be excellent with this laptop and keeps the hard drive very cool.

could you download HW Monitor HEREand post the results for us.
65c is when its critical and WILL cause damage. mine has gone upto 60c before but only when defragging. normal running idle is 40-45c and after hours of gaming it wont go above 51c and these readings are all without a cooler. i suppose it depends what part of the world you are from as air temperatures vary. its bloody freezing here in the uk so that certainly helps a little. -
dang, thanks for the quick replies, i got the cooler on the xoticpc site, and only one fan runs, and i think it runs incredibly weak, (pressed my face against it, because i like the cold metal feeling, and felt no wind whatsoever, unless it sucks.) Theres 2 fans, btw.
well, i type on my g15 anyways, but i just wanted to know what was going on. -
have you downloaded and run HW Monitor yet.

if you really want to keep it cool then you may wan to look into this cooler
NZXT Cryo LX -
the cryo xl is not that great. it quite heavy. on your heating issue, it cant be fixed, but a notebook cooler helps it LOADS. thats doesnt mean that you cant use it without one though.
and dont fall for the advice that the 5400rpm drive will be any better. It may be slower and cause less heat (keep in mind that we have explained that itsthe chipset bus that is the cause of heat) it also has a lower thresh-hold for heat. it think 55degrees is the max reccomended on the 5400s and 60degrees on the 7200s (the 320 atleast)
ceck out my review if you want. its very thorough and honest with heat issues covered (i have created very few treads so just look at my lists.) -
you guys are awesome
Right side is so hot.
