the prices in US is really much lower than UK :( europe sucks..

even considering that it cost 300 bucks to send it to norway its still cheaper than from other european notebook dealers. is it recomended ordering from the US?

The Rock comes with a "Pan-European" 3 year warranty, therefore if you live in norway, all carrige charges will be free. I currently have a Rock CTX (M570U) and i cannot fault their service. They also have their own forum www.rockforum.co.uk where you can find out finer details about their products.

Here is a review of the laptop, although with a Santa Rosa Processor rather than the new "Penryn" Ones available.

The pan-European warranty is nothing more than a gimmick, considering the prices you pay for the Rock.
Novatech has a great price on the M571RU-U (around 1500UK).

I wouldn't go for Evesham at the moment as they have had some very serious problems recently

I also live in Norway, and I'm thinking of buying the M571RU-U.

It seems that both Evesham, Novatech and Rock are very expensive compared to RJTech and EuroCom.
However, both EuroCom and RJTech are in America. So if I should get problems with the laptop, it will be costly to have it repaired. (Considering shipping)
But as mentioned, RJTech and Eurocom are waaay cheaper than any european reseller.

So currently I'm leaning towards RJTech, but the problem is that they don't seem to have the one with the silver trim, which is the one I want :(

    At a very expensive price.
Cookie, also consider that Novatech has something other resellers don't have (320GB HDD as a standard on the more expensive model) and with VAT included you can't get it at a cheaper price even in the US (considering you have to pay the price + shipping + VAT for the price and shipping).

I checked Eurocom. The price for international shipping is "just" $177 dollars. But more important, there is a 0% VAT both in the US and International if you order from Eurocom.

So basically Eurocom is still cheaper than Novatech. I haven't checked with RJTech yet, but I think it's the same there.

Novatech has excellent prices, even compared to the US. Remember, if you buy in the US, you will have to pay shipping, custom duties and VAT - that will add 20-30% to the cost of the laptop.

Rock is a good company, but overpriced. Evesham is not expensive, but they only sell a few configurations, and, as others have said, have business problems. However Novatech looks good and is probably your best bet

What about going for PCMW and getting the diamond plus 3 year gaurantee which includes wholesale price upgrades on all parts, and matched shipping if any faults + more?

I am living in Oman, having my XR5 shipped to UAE, and come from New Zealand, lol, so warranty etc... is important for me at htis stage - but by far one of the best gaurantees I have ever seen as well as upgrades at wholesale price for the lifetime of the unit.

Cookie you still have to pay VAT in your country. Eurocom doesn't charge you the VAT, but the Customs in your country will. That's what it means.
Importing any laptop from outside the EU will mean you will pay VAT for the laptop and the shipping price. That's it. Europe doesn't mean necessarily more expensive, as I've pointed out with Novatech. Configure any laptop in the US, add the shipping price and then VAT for the whole deal and you'll see how much you'll finally end up paying.

Importing a laptop from outside the EU will be just as expensive as importing a laptop from inside the EU to me. This is because Norway is not a member of the EU.

So if I should order from Novatech, I'll have to pay for the laptop itself, the 17.5% UK VAT (which is included but still adds to the price), and the 25% Norwegian VAT!

But if I order from America, I'll only have to pay for the laptop itself, and the 25% Norwegian VAT. This is because EuroCom does not charge any VAT.

This is why I want to order from America.

BUT, I do ofcourse realize that there are other disadvantages in ordering from America. I.e. shipping it back for warranty issues etc. would be more costly than shipping it just to the UK.

Norway is a member of EFTA, as is the UK, so you may not have to pay the VAT. Best check with your customs office.

If you do have to pay the Norwegian VAT, you are entitled to buy the laptop from Novatech without paying the British VAT, or having it refunded.

My point exactly. Even if Norway isn't in the EU, you have already paid VAT. You can always ask local Customs to answer this question.

Hmm...maybe I'll purchase it from Novatech after all.

But there's another problem, I just found out. They only seem to have the M570RU with the orange trim, and I want the one with the silver trim. :(

Eurocom is the only option for the silver one. Rock also has it, maybe even DevilTech.

No, it's not. Eurocom doesn't charge you any taxes for your laptop, because it's an international order, but the local Customs in your country will force you to pay VAT.

There's always the option of taking out your own insurance or buying a third-party service plan - it adds to the cost, but you may get longer coverage for less than the cost of an extended warranty from the reseller.

    Why would you chose them?
Novatech is purely a reseller. They have a forum, but other than that I'm not sure.

You really should go with Novatech. as its been pointed out, they are extremely good value for money. I will be ordering their X80R very soon myself. I know what you mean about the silver trim but to be honest, i'm more after the power, with reasonable mobility rather than looks. I think these days if you want power, mobility and looks you really do have to pay a premium that is just so hard to justify. I know this may not be an option for alot of people but there is very little of that orange trim, and it could easily be painted over if needs be.

In any case, good luck with making your decision.
