Is there any way of running the KHX1600C9S3K2/8GX (2x4 sticks) at 1600Mhz? It defaults to 1333Mhz and I don't know how to change it in the BIOS settings of my NP5165.

I don't think so. Unless it has 1600mhz memory profile programed... Clevo / Sager bios doesn't let user adjust memory frequency

Not with the memory you have. 1600 MHz requires the HyperX Plug and Play modules. You can't edit the frequencies, but the system should automatically adjust.

You have to be careful when getting 1600mhz RAM for the new Sandy Bridge Sagers. There are two types of RAM classified and sold as 1600mhz. There's the Intel XMP type (the ones you bought) that require chipset support and Intel overclocking to reach that speed and then there's JEDEC standard 1600mhz.

From Sager as per the linked thread:

Oh ok, thanks for the info...guess I'll have to be content with 1333 then. Maybe...just MAYBE, Sager/Clevo will get a BIOS out in the future that can do Intel XMP/Extreme Tuning. Here's to hoping :)

When did you buy the ram and where? I brought mines from newegg.com and I was able to return it for a full refund and free shipping.

I'm pretty sure even a new bios update will not be able to support it since its HM65 intel chipset which does not support XMP. It has to be H67 or newer. Even with intel xtu they have problems running it at 1600mhz

Return the ram and buy KHX1600C9S3K2/8G its almost the same part number but not X in the end of it. The SPD runs default at 1600mhz.

If not buy Patriot PSD38G1600SK (Test and works fine). This is the one I am using. If you did a search in the forums you can read more about RAM here.

    Good luck.

    No, it won't.

If you were on Day 31 of the return policy, you could try. But since you're almost 2 months past it, that would be a no again.

Hmm I ask for refund after 3 weeks of using it... I dont know but it doesnt hurt to try...I think you should tell them you sent them a wrong item because of the description.

Just Email them and to a make RMA saying the item was details is listed wrong. Its not a real 1600mhz RAM its 1333mhz. I use the link of the kingston.com pdf to show that the ram does not run at 1600mhz by default.

Took about 2 days of emailing. If not you have to pay for shipping fees and restocking fee.
If not order 1600mhz ram from ramexpert.com I got mines in 1 or 2 days.

    Patriot PSD38G1600SK Signature DDR3 8GB (2 x 4GB) CL11 PC3-12800 (1600MHz) SODIMM Kit RAM Experts

its 96 dollar shipped. Use that in the meanwhile if your RMA gets approve. But
If you cant get a refund, I am like 90% sure you can sell it as much as you brought it for but you just have to pay for shipping. Sell either on the forum or ebay.

    hyperx ram sell pretty well.

With 1600mhz RAM Window Experience Index benchmarks at 7.8~7.9

I'm looking at installing 16GB @ 1600 on the 8130, seems like sager has official support now for it through bios, still must use JEDEC 1600 though.

I also purchased the KHX1600C9S3K2/8GX before reading this thread and sadly, took the UPC off for a rebate through Newegg. Rather than scrap the RAM (sell on eBay, etc.) I just want to make sure that they will at least work in the NP5165, is that your understanding Catan? I'm not really disappointed with 1333 but I am disappointed with 0000 MHz lol. This way, my next laptop might have 1600 supported on the kit I bought and I don't have to get another. Yes I could have gotten cheaper 1333, but right now (without purchasing the NP5165 yet) I want to make sure my RAM can at least function. I've read differing forums that it's based on the processor you get and that the i7-2630QM does not support native 1600 but the $230 upgrade to the i7-2720QM does. I don't really think over $200 is warranted by going from 1333 to 1600. Any thoughts on this long rant would be much appreciated. Thanks

tl;dr - Does the KHX1600C9S3K2/8GX work on the NP5165 @ any frequency. All I care is that it functions. Thanks

Yes. Yes it does. At 1333 Mhz according to Speccy and CPU-Z.
