Justin, your web site said nothing about 8660 with 9800m GTX, nor does PNB.

I think Jstin may have made a typo =P. He has 9800M GTX listed in his OP, when I think he meant to say 9800M GTS

Your prices nearly made me weep out of sheer joy.
    No, seriously.

However, my inquiry is the same as minikang's.
    9800MGTXwut?
Also, I know that the NP8660 supports the 8800M GTX, but do you guys not have it available?

I'm going to ask this again because I can't find the answer...do we know anything about the performance of the 3870 relative to the other options? That info is kind of important when making a decision...

I can't believe how cheap the OCZ 128GB ssds are....Buying direct, where I looked, was $520 each. It's $495 here! Jeez.

The NP8660 will not be offered with the 8800M GTX. The 9800M GT is next generation and statistically equivalent to the 8800M GTX.

The ATi 3870 is not stable enough yet to test. We won't have any results on it for several weeks yet, and it is not scheduled for shipping until late August.

Not that I am disagreeing because I know you know what your talking about, but I have to ask this. Previously, the quadro fx 1600m was the base video card and you upgraded to the 8800m gtx. Now, the 9800m gt (which you said is the equivalent to the 8800m gtx) is the base card and we have to upgrade to the quadro. At least this is true for xoticpc and you guys are very similar in pricing so I assume that you will be the same too. So, why did this change happen? Is there any circumstances behind it, or did intel just give us a lucky break?
Also, the ATi HD3870 has some benchmarks out already and it is a little less powerful than the 8800gt. I could be totally wrong and it may be an entirely different card, but I just put it into google and thats what I came out with.

Is there a significant performance increase with the DDR3 and if so is it more expensive? Also just curious if you will just carry the 2092 or also get a powerpro version of your own. Looked like you were giving full domestic support for the Sager that usually goes with the powerpro.

Yes it is marginally faster, Yes it is considerably more expensive, and Yes we will have the Compal JHL90 up tomorrow...it will be our PowerPro P 12:15.

...and then No, the Sager version does not have 24/7 DOMESTIC toll free support (theirs is West Coast business hours M-F only), or a standard 3 Year Parts and Labor warranty with Next Business Day shipping paid both ways like the PowerPro does. Sager also does not offer Corsair or Kingston memory standard, or Kingston HyperX low latency memory.

    Thanks!

I deleted my comments as well.

I would like to say however that for over 4 years I have enjoyed the content and the decorum of NBR as opposed to other forums where emotcons are over used, and the language used exhibits either the lack of consideration for all readers, or just poor manners.

I understand it can sometimes take a little more effort to keep the potty words out of a post, but it sure makes for a nicer public forum for all to use. Remember people of all ages and many backgrounds read these posts, and there are at least 10 readers who never post for every 1 that posts, so I think it is only polite to show all of them the courtesy they deserve.

Speaking of DDR3, is there a GDDR3 version of the 9600 out there or GDDR2. I figure that may actaully have a worthwhile price/performance ratio (if it exists).

Both of those links are talking about the desktop video cards. Notice that the nVIDIA laptop cards are 8800 M or 9800 M, and those links are comparing the 8800 GT, not the GTX.

Video cards, like processors, are "bracketed" in their performance and price. So, while the 8800M GTX was current it was in the top bracket. Now the 9800M GTX occupies that bracket. The 9800M GT is in the next bracket down, but since it is the next generation card it is not unusual to expect that the 2nd bracket for the new generation = the old top bracket in performance, but of course would not = in price.

At this point it is probably too early to know what is out there for a 9600M with DDR3, but we should have a new PowerPro model based on the yet to be released ASUS Z97 that is purported to have the 9650M w/1GB GDDR3. We are looking for a September release.

It will be a PowerPro, not a branded ASUS, so all of the warranty and CS will be through PowerNotebooks.com.

Certain ASUS models have had issues with battery life and heating, but that cannot be said of all of them, or even most of them.

Thank god i'm not in montreal cause then i would've rushed myself into getting the best system at the time, but now.... i am actually happy ill be back in august and hopefully find out more about the 9800m gtx... it seems to be causing quite a stir...

do u guys think it would be better to get 8 gb at 667mhz or 4 gb at 800mhz?
( i mean, does the mhz account for a lot in comparison)

and does anyone vouch for ssd drives? i mean, i know they're more reliable, faster, quieter and such, but since they're a relatively new technology in the notebook market, will they have bugs or defects in the first batches.... kinda like beta testing?

Even though the 9600gt has less stream processors than the 8800gtx will the increased clock speeds make up for that so they are about the same level?

I know for the Clevo D900C/D901C having more than 667MHz offers no benefit (thanks to the motherboard). So, no need for 800MHz. 8GB is a LOT of RAM and is quite expensive compared to 4GB and below, too.
I haven't had an SSD before, but I plan on purchasing it (was going to install myself before announcement) for the D901C. I haven't read much about their being bugs and defects. HOWEVER, it DOES depend on the manufacturer you buy from. If you look at newegg's list of SSDs and read the user reviews. Most people return their SSDs within under a week. Because they breakdown and don't work. OCZ, however, from what I've read, has a VERY good track record in comparisson to those manufacturers. The 64GB and 128GB SSDs you are seeing just hit the market recently (13th), so I, personally, am waiting to read peoples reviews on them. If they're defective like the other guys, then I'm sure we'll be hearing lots about it in the next 2 weeks. That said, Xotic/Power are already willing to offer it, which is certainly not a negative sign.
