I've been looking into buying a custom SAGER NP5790 (Clevo M570RU) from Xotic with the geforce 7950. Before I just plop down two grand I was a bit nervous of buying a Sager after seeing a lot of negative reviews. It seems they are quite popular though, and they seem like the best value. My Hypersonic EX-7 just died on me and they want $850 to replace a custom motherboard that is no longer produced. I figure just get a new system, as the EX-7 is nearing two years old. Does anyone have any more information on the reliability of the Sager brand? Is it a gamble to buy a Sager NP5790?

Welcome to the NBR forums. :)

Sager is a great distributor.... but is not great for Service & Support.

That is why they have so many legendary Sager resellers (like XoticPC & Powernotebooks) and vendors... which everyone would recommend.

Did you read the Clevo Guide?

If you get a notebook through Xotic or Porewnotebooks, you will not be sorry, they are the best... just call them to get answers and advice.... they are enthusiasts and wont try to sell you crap.

Let me re-phrase my question. If I purchase a Sager in general am I at a much higher risk to have problems? Most reviews of Sager state how poor their customer support is. I am more concerned about the posts about how poorly made their products are. Is this true??

Which posts are those??? are they over a year old or something?

Again, when you purchase from a Sager reseller (XoticPC or PowerNotebooks), you deal with them rather than Sager. They will handle all service and support.

No there is no risk of problems, have you actually looked that the Dell, Sony and HP better business bureau reports and resellerratings?.. they are definitely worse of all for service and support.

I strongly recommend to contact any vendor to get to know them and to see if they fit your needs.

I personally have the NP5790 and I can guarantee that you will be happy. The build quality is superb and my experience with xoticpc.com has been nothing but pleasant.

i have had the very same question as the OP, investing $2k into (to me) an unknown brand - that were my biggest worries (i ll be moving to Europe - hard times for me to apply warranty, have to send back to US). But just by looking at any other systems, there are so many complains, whether it is sony, hp, dell (!!), asus, yet i see very little to none complains about the sager 5790 (i know that statistically not so many people have sagers compared to ie. dell, but anyway). Justin (Xotic) told me that a very low percentage of sagers is deficient (i dont count HD and RAM - easily replacable), i hope it wasnt just a trick to meade me buy it :), well, only one way to find out - i ve already made my order.

I agree with lawlz_xD. The build is surprisingly solid, and I wasn't expecting something flimsy. If you want reliable, you'd be hard pressed to find better than the M570RU. Even Windows XP and all kinds of Ubuntu seem nigh uncrashable on the thing.

I would suggest if your moving to Europe, to buy this beast in the states, as it is much much cheaper over there! Even if you have to return it twice (there is a few posts about this on the rock forums, one guy sent for one from xoticPC i think, and hes still getting much more for his money)

I would find these posts for you but theres 200 pages and im extrememly tired! (its in Here Somewhere!

The only problem for him would be repeated returns(more than 2) but looking at the build of this lappy and spending the last 2 months reading up on it, its not gonna break easy!

If i had the guts i would buy it from sager etc and have it shipped over but you wouldnt even have to pay for shipping/customs(i assume.

    I am currently waiting for a Rock(Direct) x770(Sager NP5790) with 8700m(so its a bit late).

Damn, i put a lot of brackets in that post!!!

    same here fusionmonkey

buying from the US DOES mean a (pretty heavy) import tax
unless when you're in the US, buy it there, and just bring it home with you ;)

as for an already placed order: 1) you can still cancel - 2) you have the right to return it to Rock within 7 business days according to their conditions (no idea how this translate to European legislation, but I think it's a matter of law when you buy from a webshop)
