    Hi all!

I had to get another AC power adapter since my dog chewed it... So I went to a sager\asus reseller and he sold me a Kensington multi use power adapter that has the following :

    90 Watts max
    19 VDC 4,74A Max.

I asked him if he was sure it would provide 100% of the power needed for my laptop, and he said it was all right for my kind of notebook.

I had no idea about adapters before. But when I looked under my laptop it say 60 V - 6A, 120 watts max.

Is my reseller right ? Or he sold me the wrong power adapter for my kind of laptop? Should I not use it and ask my reseller for a 120 watts adapter? I'm really not sure about all this.

    As I wrote in my title, I have a NP5790 (M570RU)

    Thanks in advance!

I would go with a 120w adapter personally.

    What are your specs?

It'll probably run fine, but I wouldn't overclock it any.

    thx for your answers.

But I would fear that the tip wouldnt fit on my notebook if i get the one you suggest me, niffcreature since it cant be change apparently.

I saw that Kensington also has a 120W power adapter that the volts and amps can be configurable (so would meet what is written on my notebook, which is 20V and 6A for 120W).

Would it be good enough? The guy at keningston told me it's not compatible only because Sager notebooks arent on his list... o_O

    thx again

That would be fine, but so would the one I listed.

You don't need 20v, it can be 18-22v or so, the internal power chips on your notebook will adjust no problem. Really, all you need is some 20ish voltage at 6 or so amps :D it doesnt have to be exact.

The tip on the one I listed is definitely the correct size, it says right on the listing its 2.5mm. The problem could be its not the right type, it may be for a smaller pin, but I think its right. I have used gateway adapters and all of them have the right tip that you need.
Here is the type of jack that plug goes to http://cgi.ebay.com/DC-Power-Jack-G...ltDomain_0&hash=item27b748bb19#ht_1321wt_1144
looks to be the exactly the same as whats on my sager. another picture:

How much is that kensington, like 50$?

Well thx about it then :)

Unfortunately, I'm now pretty sure the guy at the store changed the plug (jack) INSIDE my notebook! He told me he didnt but now that I try to plug my wife's old adapter, it's now tight while it was loose before. I shouldnt have trash my old and broken adapter...

So now my concern (since I dont know much about power, electricity and hardware) is... will the new jack inside my notebook will support a 120W adapter? And now that it is a different jack inside, I guess a sager/gateway adapter tip wont fit into it anymore... Holidays arriving soon, I guess I wont have the right adapter to play any games for the next 3 weeks :( :(

Well, you shouldn't have to deal with these issues, right?

So buy an adapter that would fit the original tip. If it doesn't fit, then blame the guy who serviced your notebook! He did something you didn't ask him to and lied about it? Thats not good business...

Hmm if it's really the case, you are right. But I wouldn't say such thing at the moment because I'm really not sure since I dont have my former power adapter for my computer model and I honestly never checked carefully what my power jack looked like. And for the rest, they did a terrific good job. And they were really nice.

I finally don't think they did change it. But for sure, if someone could take a close picture of their entrance power jack from their Sager NP5790 it would be very nice.
