    Hi,

What do you think of this notebook? M570TU. AU$3,264.00 delivered. Is it good? Bad? Anything wrong with it?

I have never seen one of these in the flesh so would appreciate any feedback.

I would really appreciate any links to reviews of this model with heaps of pics.

PRICE INCLUDES: Metabox M570TU, Intel Montevina T9400 2.53Ghz 1066 FSB 6MB Cache CPU, 4GB DDR2 800Mhz RAM, 17" WUXGA Glossy Display, 8x DVD-RW Dual Layer, 320GB 7200RPM SATA HDD, NVidia 9800M GT 512MB DDR3 Dedicated VRAM, 2.0 Megapixel Camera, Bluetooth V2, Basic Bag, Fingerprint Reader, WIFI 802.11 GN, Vista Ult 64bit.

    http://www.p4laptops.com.au/order-m57ru-special.htm

I am tossing up between the Dell Studio 17 with Ati Mobility 3650 or this M570TU.

The cheap/thrifty part of me that knows I don't play many games on my notebook and says I should buy the The Dell Studio 17...BUT the part of me that knows it's best to spend a bit more now as you will regret it later wants me to get the M570TU.

    Big differences for me are

M570TU is a "true" desktop replacement and will satisfy ALL my needs for a notebook.

Dell Studio is a great machine but is going to satisfy 80% of my needs - Gaming and Vista 64 bit being the other 20%

It's a price difference of about $500 Aussie so it's a pretty big difference but it's not soo much that I will be thinking about it in 6 months.

It's a really tough call for me.

It will be used for general office work, sharetrading, a bit of gaming (but when I game I like to play current/recent games eg UT3, WItcher, Bioshock, Crysis, Sins of a Solar Empire etc and Fallout3, SC2, Diablo3, Farcry2, RedAlert3 are all on my "to buy" list).

It only sits on the desk - goes between two offices.

I have 2 desktops as well with major grunt and I mainly play on the desktops but I will sometimes play on the notebook.

Can I justify spending more on the M570TU and have a kick ass notebook or should I be thrifty and settle for the Dell Studio 17 and when I game on it reduce graphics quality and resolution?

Oh and I am in Australia.

    Kind regards

    Lee

Why not consider the Sager NP9262 (aka Clevo D901C)?

If I had money to burn absolutely. They have a couple specced up here:

    http://www.p4laptops.com.au/order-d901c.htm

    http://www.p4laptops.com.au/order-d901c2.htm

It looks absolutely beautiful but armagideontime is spot on. The Dell Studio 17 is everything I need - the M570TU is everything I want for another $500. The D901C is going to be even more.

Is the single but slightly faster harddrive, faster RAM, faster CPU, double GPU power for an extra $500 justified....

I'm looking for the answer. It's a tough call. If I could only win Lotto. I'd buy 1 of each. And a Macbook Pro!

Then it should be easy enough for the OP himself to state his reasons for not considering it, shouldn't it.

EDIT: There we go. Why not write down two lists for each system - why you want it (i.e., what you could do with it) and what you cannot do with it. Compare them, and decide which is worse, paying extra for what you can do, or paying less but knowing what you cannot do.

Actually Shyster1 this is the first time I had even really looked at this D901C. I can see it's more than the M570TU but it obviously has advantages in that it can be upgraded more easily with more hard disks.

I think the price makes it less viable an option that the M570TU

lee: I question how many of these they have actually built.
On their configuration (at time of this posting) they offer DDR2-800 RAM, which will not work in this model. You have that listed in your total price. To upgrade to the RAM you need at the 4GB amount you wanted it is another $200.

I have and this is it right here. And I cannot decide.

Most of it comes down to how good the 3650 is as a gaming card. I think it's pretty bland. I've read a number of posts on it that suggest it's an "adequate" card about the same as an 8600M GT.

But reading is nothing like real world experience. There is a reason I have upgraded from my Ti4200 to an Ati 9600XT to a 7800GT to an 8800GTS and now to an Ati 4870 on my desktops. I am guessing the mobility 3650 is going to be around my desktop 7800GT in performance - certainly the 3DMark 06 is. It's "OK" but not great. How many games am I going to play on my new notebook? Unknown. How many times will I regret not getting a M570TU with the 9800M GT? Unknown. Past experience says I won't play games much on a notebook. But is that because I only have a 7600GT at the moment or is it because my desktops have better cards?

Bah. It's probably easiest to flip a coin.

That's fair enough. Quick question: In terms of playing games on a notebook in the past - how often (to your recollection) have you tried to play a game and just given up because the graphics couldn't cut it, or how often have you said to yourself "I have some time right now, and I really wish I could play X, but I just know that I'm going to end up getting frustrated by the low-power graphics on this notebook?" If the answer is "not often" then you're probably right in thinking that you wouldn't really play that many games on a notebook even if it did have the graphics power, in which case the better GPU really isn't a necessary component.

Basically, if you want to play the current games coming up well, at higher resolutions and with good graphics, your gonna need the 9800m gt cause the 3650 isnt going to cut it. if you think youll be gaming at all, then go with the better video card. 500 bucks is worth it because youll be upgrading alot.
