Hi, i was wondering if any of you lovely 8153-s owner could help me out in deciding if this laptop is for me.

i had a nice 4k screen on my desktop i got from acer refurbished, and it ended up having a mother board problem so i had to send it back. Acer refunded me as they had no more. im looking into moving into a laptop as i dont really like being stuck at my desk.

im looking to use excel/access for school work, at time taking the laptop to school for class.
im looking to game at 4k.

my questions is about video tho, does this 4k screen work as a decent monitor for 4k movies?
im really looking into growing my digital UHD collection

i heard the color is okay and some people have a yelloish hint on theirs.

also does anybody have thermal result from gaming? im looking for a really cool laptop so i can use it on my lap instead of having to be on a desk (theres no desk in the TV room, but theirs a really comfty couch with a outlet right next to it). my other option is the MSI GT62VR, as i do know that has scored 10C better in thermal test based on benchmarks, but im not sure benchmarks would be the same as everyday use/gaming.

4K resolution is way too much for a 15-inch notebook. My Yoga 2 Pro has a 3K screen (3200x1800) and I hate it. You won't see a difference between it and 1080p when watching movies and such.

Edit I'm not asking if I'd notice the difference between 1080 and 4K, 4K is better for productivity and the videos are 4K movies so they will def look better. But no matter how much better they look, if the monitor is meh they'll look meh.

I'm basically asking if videos look good on this monitor (any video/1080p/720p etc) and also would it be an adequate monitor if want to start working with editing and CAD (high color)

    Not on a 15-inch screen it isn't.

Okay would prefer input from somebody who actually owns the laptop.

All I can say is go play with an xps 15, you def get benefits from the 4K igzo screen

    Edit nvm it's pentile

What's Pentile? I actually have this on order with a 4K screen (unlike most on NBR, I like high res screens, and dont mind small stuff).

Edit: OK, I figured out what Pentile is, but how does it look? Never had any issues with my samsung phones (which apparently are Pentile). Curious if I will see a difference with this and my other displays (laptop or otherwise).

These displays are missing subpixels and thus do not achieve their advertised resolution, and also have color issues.
it will still look better than 1080p, just its not full 4k and they tend to have a yellowish color

Interesting .... hopefully after calibration it isn't too bad. I remember my M18x having a distinct blue tint until calibrated, and then was outstanding. Thanks for the heads up.

Be prepared for scaling issues on a 15.6" screen, despite the image quality. Some thoughts here: Did I make a mistake going with 1080 instead of 1440 or even 4k?

Color gamut is decent at 72% NTSC on this screen ( LP156WF6-SPB1). I don't recall a yellow-ish tint (that's something you may have to see for yourself).

A lot of 4K panels are UHD, not full 4K, but on a screen this size it's unlikely anyone would truly notice a difference between the two.

i had scaling issues even on a 28' 4k monitor, mostly due to certain programs not scaling.
what exactly is the problem on 15 inch ones?

a XoticPC representive is the one who told me some owner (not all) have a yellowish color

I'm probably going to go with Alienware, their 4K igzo panel should be sufficient for color work

Less screen real estate; the pixels are packed in it more densely. Scaling appears to be more egregious on small screens.

Only a few people can comfortably work with such a high pixel density even with scaling. Some get it just for the colour performance and run it at 1080p.

Yeah, usually 4K screens do have better colors and you do get that benefit regardless of resolution. I've made that same recommendation to people before, just scale it back.
