Hello everyone,
My 6990M got fried after exactly 1 year. I kept it alive for an extra couple of months using the oven method, but then it was completely dead. I took my laptop to many computer stores to fix it, sadly none of them could even recognize the GPU. Finally just yesterday I found a store who could fix it for $190 USD. Do you think it's worth it? The $190 USD is for replacing the 6990M with a new one.
Looking forward to your answers

A little suspicious of someone going to sell you a "new" one for $190 USD.. Now I'm not saying its not true, but I'm just wondering what they are doing for 190.00

I asked him where he's getting it from and from which store if he may tell me. The only thing he told me is that he's gonna order a new one from Dubai (About 30 minutes ride from where I live).
Do you have an idea about the price of a new 6990M? I can't seem to find it on Google or anywhere else since it's apparently not sold alone.. Tried to customize a laptop and see how much it costs to add and it was $200 for the 6990M, but I'm not sure.. -
Yea, the issue is that 6990m's haven't been made in almost a year, so someone still having them is a little odd. I would inspect the part before they put it in to see exactly what they are putting in, and also make sure they aren't putting in a Dell part instead of the Clevo. I would just be careful thats all =)

That sounds suspicious indeed. I'll definitely check the GPU before they install it and whether it works or not, and if everything was alright I'll pay them. Thanks a lot! =)

I loved my 6990m on my last laptop. No enduro, all games maxed out and the best bang for the buck!
No driver issues...
Sometimes in 4v4 battles in Starcraft 2, my gtx660m reminds me of how slow it is, compared to my last lappy with amd 6990m. -
I had a 6990m in my np8150 that got fried after almost a year aswell... I got a blue screen error and I can't install the amd drivers without getting it anymore. I contacted sager a couple of months ago about it and they told me a new 6990m would cost around 500$ (don't remember exactly) and a 7970m around 450$.. So I'd recommend you to check with them first. Also, does your laptop screen show red bars now with the fried graphics card? Because mine does and i can't figure out what the problem is exactly and whether a new graphics card would fix it.
You can check out the thread i made it's got a few replies. -
so u just baked it again?

Often, something dated costs more than something current, due to supply in demand. You can get a refurbished 6990M for $300-$400 though. -
That's exactly how I feel now using my old DELL laptop with Intel graphics. I feel as if I have fallen from heaven to hell..
Actually yes, I did get tilted horizontal lines on my screen due to graphics card being dead, but mine were green. Using the oven method I was able to revive the card a couple of times which lasted for about 2 months, but doing so made the card hot at all times no matter what I do. After the two months, I decided to give it another run at the oven, but this time it didn't go very well.. After I took it out the oven I was trying to put it back in the laptop but this time it made a loud static shock. Since then the laptop wouldn't even start - I would turn it on and it would turn on for 5 seconds with black screen and shutdown after. And when I connect the charger the laptop would turn itself on automatically and then shutdown after 5 seconds. Too many problems man.. I'm really starting to doubt getting a new card would fix the problem. Well I'm not gonna pay the store if it's not gonna work anyways.
I also contacted SAGER a few months ago about ordering a new 6990M from them. They told me it'll cost $695 including the shipping.
It sounds ironic I know, but yeah that's what I did and it worked.
That's true. $190 is actually a really good price for the card which is why I'm going for it. I checked with the store and they told me it's the same graphics card.
Well I'm going to the store tomorrow morning to check on everything before ordering the new 6990M. -

Thanks!

After taking it to more than 5 different computer stores (in which each one of them promised to fix it), none of them were able to fix it or even identify the problem..
If somebody out there knows a workaround to fix this issue, please hit me up!
I forgot to update this post in a long time. Anyways now that I'm free I'll probably go with a new desktop build.
