So.. I can't find any reviews on this thing.. It has an I7 6700hq and a 980m 8gb card.. Which i was happy about until I found out i couldn't upgrade anything in the system so I just want to make sure it will hold up for gaming for awhile... $1700 worth..
Also I'm curious on overclocking for this laptop.. I've never owned a 6000 series cpu laptop before and first time having the 980m so I know it will be fast but I would want to get more out of it, can this laptop accept any bios mods like prema? And can the 6700hq be over clocked at all?
Heat... I was looking at a similar model with a 4700hq and 970m the gpu was very cool... Buy cpu was about 85c which is crazy Hot to me.. Is the 6700hq alot cooler? And Im guessing the 980m will be okay.
The ips panel and gsync seem nice... Ddr4 2133mhz 16gb ram.. With 850 evo m. 2 ssd and 1tb hdd.. Are alright aswell.
I know this post sounds confusing.. I'm just scared I paid 1700 for no overclocking capability sense everything is soldered down and no upgrade ability.. Although xoctic pc said pascal gpus might not even work with 900 series laptops... I think they will.. For mxm at least. Also i worry that the bios can't be flashed to an advanced unlocked one.. And prema mod will be amazing if I can get it for the 980m..but I was told if I try to flash back to office al bios.. I will brick laptop... Meh..
I mean.. Was this a good buy?
And if anyone may know of a review on this machine.. Please send it my way!

This is one of the better priced models with a 980m. A lot of the other manufacturers might be more around $2000ish (depending on configuration) for something with a 980m. Sager does have a pretty good value for the features.
There is no support to overclock the 6700hq in the BIOS like you would find on a 6820hk. The 6700hq does run a little bit cooler, is a bit better on battery life, and still a bit more powerful than a 4700hq. The cooling in that model is good for the most part.
$1700 is a big purchase, but it would still be a very capable machine for a while. It's not like you are looking at something with an i5 and a 950m graphics, it is still has some higher end components.
As for MXM, we are cautiously optimistic. We hope there is support, but we haven't heard either way as of yet. There is a chance they might not work in existing systems, but it will just take some time before everything is launched before we can find out for sure on which models might have compatibility.
For reviews, you might have to look for some on the p670SG or SE/RE models, as they are similar. Me personally, I like that model. I think it is a good bang for your buck, solid cooling, and still pretty good for other upgrades (ram, ssd, etc). Thanks for purchasing it with us, and if you need any help in the future, let me know. -

I get the 6820hk?.. Or would the 6700hq be fine? I'm just feeling afraid due to all 4 cores running at 3.1ghz... As long as the 980m isn't bottlenecked.. But even with a 6820hk what would it run at with all 4 cores? Am I able to set it to 4ghz with all cores? Which is crazy. -

What are you using the computer for? If you are using it for some heavy CPU using programs, then I would go for it. If you are gaming, it could be nice, but maybe not necessary. For gaming, the processor generally won't be a bottleneck on the graphics card, at least at 1080 resolution.
Overclocking will vary from model to model. Even two different processors that come off the production belt right next to each other could overclock differently. -

That being said, if you can wait a few months until the new 1000-series GPUs start to hit notebooks, then it would behoove you to do so as the gains over the 900 line are probably going to be quite significant. But if you absolutely need a computer now, you won't be disappointed with the 980M. Before I got mine, my last notebook used a Sandy Bridge Core i7 2860QM and AMD Radeon 6770M, so it was quite the upgrade.
If the option is available to you, get your notebook with a G-Sync screen. My system doesn't have it built it, but I connect it to a compatible monitor. It makes a huge difference to playability as I can keep vsync on in games and not have to worry about lag should the framerate drop below 60. It will definitely help extend the life of your computer.Last edited: Jun 10, 2016 -
