When I received my computer I noticed there was a SIM slot next to the mSATA compartment. I was wondering if anyone had a working cellular modem in there instead of the SSD?

I might be able to share my data with my cellphone plan and it could be neat to have one instead of tethering... (Shouldn't be crazy expensive to be worth it though)

This is the first I've ever heard of a SIM slot, do you have any pictures?

That's a combined memory card slot, not a SIM card slot. Different things.

thought they had stopped putting them on lappys.
first one was the m860tu but it was such a massive price hike to use it no one ever did.

as mentioned thats most prob the memory card slot

Sure enough, it says SIM right there. And it would only make sense for it to be wired to the mini-PCI-e slot right above it. Maybe you can find someone with a spare 3G card to loan you and you can test it out with your phone's SIM (provided everything is unlocked and drivers are publicly available, etc...). I wonder how many other P151s came like that?

you cant just put a sim in and it works. you have to take a contract out and 4 years ago it was about 4 times a month more expensive than a normal phone contract. no idea what it costs now.

It's the same as getting a sim for a tablet. It's not that expensive. Of course if you have a phone contract with tethering and unlimited data, you might as well use your phone as a hotspot.

really? I spotted it as soon as I opened up the back panel for the first time

I had a look up it though, it looks as if there wasn't any actual connectors, and it was just an early idea that was built into the chassis but then not the motherboard later.

And if it was there, I think windows would detect the hardware.
