    SOS: GPU Fan went out on NP9377

    Sorry for the somewhat panicked post. I got a loud alarm on my NP9377, I shut down the computer. Upon investigation, found that one of the GPU fans was inop. It's the fan below the power button - I believe it's the primary GPU but that's what I came here to ask about.

    What are my options here? I need the thing running for school. Data is in the cloud, but having to type multiple reports on my tablet is going to be a bear.

    Will the thing still run and function with a single GPU if I were to physically remove it? Can I disable it in the bios(prema mod)?

    Contact your reseller and see if they'll send out a replacement fan. They're quite easy to replace.

    I don't think you'll be able to disable the warnings about the fan failure as that's like baked into the EC. If it's the primary GPU, AFAIK the secondary GPU doesn't have the video outputs connected so that probably won't do you any good.

    I had already sent them an email. Just needed something to limp me though the days it'll take to get a replacement

    I think you misinterpret me though. I seek to disable the GPU itself, not the overtemp warnings

    Yep that's the primary gpu. The one wired to the displays. Cant disable it.

    Try pulling it apart and lubing it. Might get it back to life and keep it alive while the replacement is organjsed

    Also if it's just a temp warning you could take the base cover off and have a cooler pad blowing on it. Might be ok for desktop (not anything using the gpu obviously)

    Bummer

    Just pulled the fan apart. Can't get any leeway with it. Cleaned out a few stray hairs, inspected bearing, cleaned everything out the best I could. It's a wee bit better but still too much drag for it to effectively spin freely

    Ok so I managed to rig something together enough to allow me to post this. Uhh... Don't ask

    However, for safety's sake, until I get the new fan, how do I disable the GPUs and delegate the task to the CPU's integrated graphics? I remember I did it long ago when I took this thing portable with me but I cannot for the life of me remember how

    The integrated GPU is disabled on this machine physically.

    Seems I was mistaken in the past then.

    David indicated that replacement fans are out of stock. Any idea when you'll be getting more? Or any plans to get more?

    Is this a brushless fan?
    If so, you can completely disassemble the fan, then lubricate it with Shin-Etsu G-30M or G-40M (available on amazon) and then reassemble. Check youtube for tutorials.

    If your reseller can't get you any fans, I believe rjtech sells them individually on their website.

    I've bought many misc new components from them for my P377sm-a including fans, screws, internal cables, a motherboard, etc.
