I've had a 5760 @ 1.83 Merom, 2GB, 7900GTX for a few years and games are starting to trudge ahead of it now, but in those years I haven't kept up with the new hardwares.

So I'm looking to get a 9262 with the 9800M GT SLI and the quad processors and all, but one thing that's nagging, and I can't seem to find a good indicator on the net is: How much faster is the read times? I've seen a few articles that say it's "double a Barracuda" etc but I haven't got enough of a feel that I feel I definitively understand.. Is there a notable difference loading games etc? One thing that has always annoyed me was the slow "hiccup" when first playing a game, because it's loading apparently sound and enviormental levels.. aka it hasn't loaded the whole thing yet. Will that be greatly eliminated with a 128 GB OCZ (what is OCZ anyway)? thanks

I have not done it personallybut the answer for the most part is yes and it comes through the extremely fast disk access times.

I have heard others state that, in games where you may normally wait close to a minute for a new level or a pause for a new screen, these are eliminated or reduced drastically.

There is a cool youtube vid comparing the OCZ 128GB SSD against a Velociraptor. It's impressive...

So if I'm understanding that right, the single 128 OCZ beat a dual raided velociraptor?

That's pretty good, looks like I'll include one as my main drive, and a 320 gb one for media.

By the way crow I saw your thread, triple raided SSDs? I can't wait to see the results of that.

It would be nice to have one of those new drives in a D901C and then 2 more 320 GB drives in a RAID0 for storage space. It would only cost about $700. (from newegg)
It should beat out my 3 drive RAID0 easily.

XP 64 bit boots much faster off my RAID than Vista64 does in that guys video though. ;)

SSD's are nice, bu still too expensive, I will get a 160 or 200GB 7200 drive, and when the price is afordable (and probably performance will be extreme), I will get onde of these monsters=P

For the performance you are getting, the SSD's are very affordable right now. Near instant access times, 120/140MB Read and 80/90MB Writes, Silent, Less power is amazing for a laptop.
