I'm interested in grabbing a SSD for my laptop when it comes in and have started the looking process now.

Basically I am looking for around 120 gigs that is reliable. Speed of the particularly SSD does not matter, I know even the slowest of them should out run a HDD. I will be using a reliable HDD as a backup drive with tons of space on it. The SSD will simply be for some games and the operating system, everything else will be stored on the backup.

I have never bought an SSD however. I assume I need to turn off auto defragging and I need to update firmware to keep it up to date, as well as ACHI and the tweaks to the page file/hibernation.

I just don't know brands and reliability. As far as that goes I have no clue what to look for and what to avoid.

Anyone out there make suggestions, or is it truly hit or miss with the drives?

    Thanks for your time.

I'd suggest a crucial M4 or samsung 830. Windows 7 plays nice with ssds these days, so it's pretty easy to set up. Have a look at the ssd section of the forum under hardware, there's much more info.

I prefer Samsung, Crucial, or Intel. Here is a link to an example on Newegg:
Newegg.com - Crucial M4 CT128M4SSD2 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)
