Is it possible to put an SSD in the Mini-PCIe slot? Has anyone done it? Anything tricky about it?

It would probably be slower than a HDD.

I don't think they will work in our sagers, they are to big to fit, the sager's have the PCIe slots setup for specific types of cards. In the 8760 the spare slot is configured for a TV card. I think your spare slot is for a 3G module.

I think it has been said before that the PCI-E slot does not have an I/O controller and thus these SDD cards will not work.

If it had a SATA controller on it do you think it would work? Wouldn't it need to be a selectable boot device from the BIOS at least if you wanted it as a bootable drive. At least I'd want that with an SSD as long as it's decently faster than a 7200RPM HDD. Or maybe there's some voodoo you can do to it so that it boots off the HDD, but transfers the windows boot to the SSD once it loads a driver or whatever. I dunno, just some thoughts. Some other post mentioned a couple possible mini PCIe drives coming with SATA controllers integrated, but not available yet.

I'd prefer if it were just plug and play though.

you would be better off using your optical bay as a secondary drive

Well you dont exactly need to lose it. You can turn the optical drive into an external USB drive, you just need to buy the right adapter and housing

Another option is expresscard SSD, but they are slow as well

i tried before , buying some internal to external converter for DVD roms

but apparently the power provided by the usb cables are not enough , i guess it needs more power than 2 usb cables

Yes, if it has a SATA controller on it, it will work.
Sorry about the link, but I can't be bothered right now to search for it. Just search in the forum, it is here somewhere.
