    Hi there,

I have the NP8130. Is it safe to use this laptop on a Zalman NC2000 without the backplate? Would this be helpful to bring down the temps?

    Thank you

What are your temps at currently?

Also, the backplate is designed to help with the cooling of your laptop by directing that airflow. It can make a difference by as much as 7C increase if you remove the backplate.

You mean laptop backplate? Sure go right ahead and try it. Depending on laptop I've had temps drop as much as 10C lower. Just try and see.

What was the result of your removal of the plate?

I am also interested in the Zalman NC2000. Does it make a significant difference on your laptop's temps?

    NC2000 sucks, don't use it.

The actual air flow comes from the bottom of the cooler, so it really doesn't make a difference if you're using the Sager models as the vents don't match up with the air flow.

The best ones that work are the NZXT Cryo LX, and I've heard very good stories about the 19" coolers that have huge CFM.

Whoa, mid 90's!? There's an issue there my friend. No CPU or GPU should be running in mid 90's. You either need to clean out your system fan with some compressed air as it may be clogged with dust bunnies. Or you need to reapply thermal paste. Perhaps your heatsink isn't applied properly.

I'm running my w860cu without the backplate on a U2 cooler that I've set up even higher to get better airflow. I'm currently peaking at around 58 degrees when playing Civilization V. I've got one fan centered at the graphicscard, and the other pushes air towards that area (in a vertical position).

It works great, but I really want to test out a real desktop fan such as the nf-p12.

You should be looking at a cleaning and / or thermal paste reapplication, not a cooler. I use one merely to keep the overall components a bit cooler and for a nice platform.
