    Hi guys,

pretty new here and researching on what notebook to buy (see my post linked below).

However, the reason I'm posting here is because I'm interested in getting a clevo system, but have been reading about Sager being unreliable in my local tech forums. Would like to check how true this is for other users. It's a pretty hefty investment and I don't want to regret my purchase.

I'd like to know what is meant by "failure rates" because they are not high as indicated in that forum thread. Take a look at these forums at NBR. Many satisfied users, very few with "nightmare" scenarios. I wish I had warranty and reliability numbers but after owning six Sagers now, I can safely say they are one of the more robust and satisfying machines to work with, and I've owned everything from Dell, Acer, HP, Gateway, Lenovo, Sony, a few lesser known names.

In the US, the warranty is good. You have to ship your laptop to Sager, but they pay for round trip shipping, and they aren't too particular about what you do to your laptop that will void your warranty. Only thing that will cause a warranty void problem is soldering, cutting, grinding, hard modifying your laptop. Otherwise pretty much anything goes. Swapping GPU's, CPU's, repasting, etc.

Sager is generally viewed as the most reliable and durable builds out there. They are the top pick for everyone here of course because you're in the Sager threads but we see a lot of very happy people with their machines. Also some of the most commonly bought systems for military/government due to their reliability. You'll be hard pressed to find a person not happy with them. For the price you pay you get a lot. Not saying that there aren't some unhappy people as HTWingNut stated, but they are very few and far between.

    Hello there,
This is just my two cents based on my personal eval at this forum and one or two others. I will give the good and the bad things which I would think about when buying my laptop. Before I go further I will first like to say this -- I myself would buy a sager if I had the money but I would surely choose which one to buy.

Again this is my personal opinion so I hope no one takes offence and also please correct me if I am wrong on any count.

Bad -- From what I have read about the latest models of Sager I would say that they are trouble in the beginning. I heard that people got it( faulty parts) replaced ( not a lot but some and for NP9270 and the other one) mostly coz it had a bad keyboard. I have heard of ghosting issues with the keyboard. Second problem I saw was with the availability of the drivers for the graphics card but that is not Sager's problem ( or is it ?). Third is the one I saw for the speakers being below par volume and especially bass. Besides these I have not come across any other problems.

Good --- Everything else is great. The way I see it once it gets started and is stable then it can take pretty much anything you can throw at it and for a really longgggg time without any warranty issues. You can dismantle and upgrade all components ( do note that upgrading processor is possible but only if same pin/socket structure ). They keyboard issue I found in the NP9*** and NP8*** series but older people say that this was not the issue earlier. Also people got it replaced and finally got a good piece ( also remember that this happened very rarely but it did happen). Drivers, well, you will get it as soon as nvidia lay them out and you have to sit with the computer and keep patting it (LOL) so it listens to you and accepts. As to the speakers well that actually might be an issue coz it is not faulty but kind of like that only. I did hear one or two people say that their's was fine.

My view --- Nail down all the problems with the help of the buyers. Xotic is great but so are some others. After this is done you will have a laptop to reckon with. People have also suggested to go for dell alienware with next business day warranty and they have said that although chances are higher for an AW to come with intial faulty parts but NBD helps out a lot. Also Aikimox suggests often that one can get up to 20 percent ( 30 percent? ) discount from AW if you haggle. If you can do that then it is good but still Sager always has arguably best cooling and never seen problems which actually are problems like bad mother board and all. They have had bad graphics and again free replacement happens but that is kind of all. Also , as I said earlier, Dell and others have a higher chance of getting a bad part initially. This is something I read on the forums here itself and I am not going into details.
