As I customize a Sager NP9262 and I am selecting the video card it says "user upgradeable." Does that mean I can buy the computer with the smaller video card now and set up the SLI later? or buy & install the 9800M GTX later?
-

That's right.
You can select and buy a lower option. Later, you can upgrade to whatever options are provided in the list.
-
They will charge you an arm and a leg for it tho.
-
Thats fine. I don't have the money upfront right now to get the good hard drives AND the good video cards. So I'd rather get the good hard drive then set up the good video cards in a few months.

The will charge the going market price at the time you do the upgrade.
A couple of cautions though.
1. Don't wait until the card(s) you want to upgrade have been replaced by the next generation because they might be hard to get by then.
2. Don't count on being able to upgrade to anything beyond what is offered when you first order your laptop. You KNOW what is available when you order can be used later, but you never know for sure whether card(s) that are offered later will be. -

Actually, it might be smarter to do it the other way around. If you mean the SSD hard drives, they will be coming down in price much faster than the video cards, and they are much easier to swap out. Further, they won't add as much to your gaming experience as the video cards will. -
Paladin44's second point cannot be emphasized enough:

Well I'll be a little more specific, here are the three options:
512 MB NVIDIA 9800M GT
512 MB NVIDIA QUADRO FX 1600 (+45)
1024 MB NVIDIA 9800M GTX (+365)
SLI 512 MB NVIDIA 9800M GT (+490)
I was just going to pick the one 9800M and add the second one at a later date. I could thus use the money to get the better primary, secondary and third hard drives. Might not get a third though. -
So the GT is more expensive than the GTX? I don't get it.
If the default is the GT and you need an extra 365 to replace it with the GTX, why getting a second GT cost so much more than the GTX? -
those are SLI 9800M GT's.... not single... thats why it costs more.
9800M GT's are about 10-20% cheaper than a 9800M GTX for single cards. -
Another question, I saw someone mentioning (in another thread) a price drop in processors after Aug 10th, is this true?
-
Wait, so if I get a laptop that I can have SLI, and just buy one GT, if I ever want SLI I will have to buy 2 GT cards instead of just one more?
-
No. You buy one more card, and make sure you get the SLi cable, heatsinks, and BIOS/firmware updates.
-
I stand corrected.
Are we going to go free-form again?
-
You stand corrected on what? You emphasized it better, because I thought what "link1313" posted was a cute signature or something.
-
Technically I suppose you're right, since I did say that Paladin44's statement couldn't be emphasized enough, provided that one considers link1313 to have emphasized it even more, in which case he demonstrated, at least, that further emphasis was possible.
However, I suppose that, since you're of the opinion that his post obscured rather than emphasized Paladin44's point, then perhaps I was, in a sense, contingently corrected inasmuch as, on this theory, link1313 was not able to further emphasize the point.
Gee, ain't free-form posting fun!
