Really nice setup.
-
mafia! sweet game, I watched an entire play through on youtube, its a rather short game to be honest.
-
Holy Crap Thats Fast Dude..
480m gtx sli kicks.
I wonder how high you can overclock after overvolting gpu??
what about Crysis, and GTA IV benchmarks?
edit.
Mafia 2 isnt that short, its about 12 hours for a reg player
spliter cell conviction is only 5, now thats a short game.
mafia 2 is prob the best game iv'e played since crysis -

This is the thread we have been waiting for...Thanks Speedy!
-
We have been trying to get the 260.63 drivers installed with no luck ...
There are 6 different versions of the 480m in the 260 drivers but none of them will pick up the cards in his machine... -
Bring it on!!!
-
nice,,keep them coming!!!
ps.whats your system specs? -
-
any chance you have ME2, Dragon Age, RE5?
-
hope we can test the limits with metro 2033 (DX 11, very high settings, Full HD resolution)
-
he should be able to average 27 fps in metro 2033 maxed.
-
got any source for these numbers? or u tried it urself? -
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 480M SLI - Notebookcheck.net Tech
scroll down to mafia 2, it will show 75.8 fps average...since speedy posted 75.6fps average i'd say its very accurate.
metro 2033 gets 23 fps average according to notebookchecks assumed accurate benchmarks for 480m sli..
add 15 percent overclock..
you have roughly 27fps
edit.
noticed your thinking of getting a g73jh...tip DON'T it wont run newer games at 1080p nicely...it almost always averages 20-30fps which isn't good enough for smooth enjoyable gaming compared to consoles..
just get a sli setup like alienware with a 1440x900 screen fast c2d and crossfire 5870s... for the amount of money you will spend 3000..it will be future proof for about 4 years...which is better than spending 2000 and getting a laptop thats obsolete 6 months later -
+1
am not impressed by the G73JW either, by the performance of the 460M to be specific.
so ur suggesting either the Sager X7200 or an Alienware with CF? -
Yea because im in the same boat as you.
My reasoning is this..
Find the cheapest laptop that will last in gaming for 4 years.
1440x900 native looks almost the same as 1920x1080 native on 17inch screens
higher framerates at 1440x900
higher framerates with fast c2d
higher framerates with cross fire 5870
alienware warranty is great, and build quality is strong(longevity)
Im thinking of getting a alien ware with dual 5870s but im not so sure it will last by the time the new consoles come out..
its either wait 2 years to upgrade, or buy cross fire now ..
another problem is, games....not alot of new good games coming out for a while and when they do im sure they wont be much more demanding than crysis.
cross roads on this...
too buy or not to buy
but honestly iv'e researched alot, and all I can say is after seeing a dude with sli 8800m gtxs being able to play games from 2010 back at full settings and 1080p, sli looks like its the only option for gaming laptops unless you get a lower resolution screen with a card better than the 8800m gtx
edit.
yea I was looking at the asus g73jw and im not impressed either.. 15-20fps doesnt cut it for me...
I personally get annoyed when the game starts chugging along...its kinda like internet lag..annoying as hell -
am fond of PhysX (games like Ghost Recon and AvP, metro 2033) so yeah it's gotta be nvidia. Besides DX11 is not well (or fully) supported on the 5870 cards.
i wholeheartedly eliminated the 5870m option from any laptop am planning to buy (CF or not).
I just checked alienware M15x and M17x and was surprised how outdated the listed video cards are; 5870m being the best amongst trash such as nvidia 240m!!! (no nvidia 400 series)
so why dont u just go for the Sager X7200? it is SLI and definitely better than the 8800m gtx in SLI.
what am gonna do is wait for Nvidia's counter products to ATI's 6000 series, these shall be the real DX 11 marauders with PhysX support (Either Nvidia 485m or Nvidia 500m series). if these are gonna take longer than December 2010 to go live, then am grabbing a 480m SLI by then hopefully with reduced prices. -
Well, that is almost a thread hijack in my dictionary... And let us end it here:
1) "1440x900 is like 1920x1080"*: with all due respect, that is plain ridiculous. The loss of detail (and, for that matter, of colour too) is quite noticeable. Not to mention that there is nothing future-proof in 1440x900... The whole industry is heavily moving towards high resolutions, 1080p is already pretty much a standard, the whole point of new games with their stunning graphics and of HD movies with their stunning picture is detail and colour. With 1440x900 you lose both because of the lack of (physical!) pixels.
2) If you want future-proof hardware, look for what is well upgradeable in terms of performance. I don´t think that particular Asus laptop can compete with Clevo. For that matter, X7200 is the perfect future-proof laptop as it appears to be one of the most upgrade-friendly laptops so far: desktop cpu (so the performance is a priori excellent), easily user-replaceable; 2 MXM slots for SLI or CF, no need to buy the overpriced GTX480M now, better gpus are coming, also relatively easily user-upgradeable; lots of ports; 1920x1080 screen; more than enough HDD slots.
3) Without the overpriced GTX480M SLI, a X7200 can be had within the price range of AW and Asus.
Just my 0.02$
Now waiting for Speedy benchmarks!...
*Screen size matters only for the DPI. -
do u think we will be able to replace the 480m in the X7200 with any nvidia 500 series gpus, or even the AtI 6700 coming soon? is the chipset on the X7200 so versatile and compatible..? answer this with references if any, and the hijack is over, promise
-
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
-
However, you don´t need to be a prophet to see that among the available options X7200 has the highest chance to be compatible with future graphics, and it has whole 2 bloody slots
You think you can upgrade that ASUS?!... Even assuming that the GTX480M happens to be the most powerful card compatible with X7200 ever, that is, a SLI of it is comparable to the AW CF, then you think you can put a desktop cpu in the AW later on to make it even?... I think the question about the most future-proof laptop from all available options answers itself
EDIT: And yes, there is a good chance that the MXM revision in X7200 becomes obsolete soon, but this does not change the situation in any way. -
your saying asus, but i think you mean Alienware..
Yea im thinking of saving up for the x7200..
at the crossroads.
also, can you prove with pictures that 1920x1080 is alot better than 1440x900..
Iv'e seen both in action and I personally cannot tell the differance sitting back 2 feet.. I guess if i was to stand 1 inch from the monitor and squint i could tell the differance. on a 50 inch tv it looks much better, but on a small screen like 17inches, how can you say you lose image quality..
and back on topic..
can't wait till speedy posts more benchmarks -
Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
Sorry guys i am not going to be posting more benchmarks i had some technical issues and my machine is going back to the company i will keep you guys updated on this regard.
-
-
Hopefully mine is a good one ... its just arrived in NZ customs today! -
-
Hi guys been reading the threads on the x7200, seems like a really nice laptop. This thread had me very interested until I saw that the OP had technical issues. SPGonzalez could you enlighten us into exactly what the technical difficulties where ?
I am hoping that its not an SLI issue ! -
Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
Ok guys i been having multiple PM's about this and i know i have to go public on this because is time
i have my X7200 Saturday and i was so exited for it my specs was i7 980X,sli GTX 480m 4GB. 1333mhz ram, 1 intel ssd and one momentus XT drive with more space for an extra ram and extra HDD. and i tough that was a good idea to save power for overclocking
when install my drivers and games i was ready to play so i fire up Mafia 2 with the Killowatt meter plugged on the wall it shows 324W-332W during the game that was over the specs already i play for like an hour and it was ok
i decide to run the benchmark built in the game at max settings and the killowatt meter shows up to 343W then my PSU shutdown i let it cool and plugged again it works but i was ready to do some real testing
i run furmark single GPU. and Prime 95 at the same time it consumes 275W to close to the limits then i run furmark multi GPU and prime 95 it took seconds to kill my PSU again and the meter shows 370Wfor couple seconds
i think the machine is perfect but it needs a bigger PSU like 400W minimum because this is a desktop packed in a little box
sorry guys i pass on this is to much stress for me -
Thank you for that information, I had computed the power requirements myself and was expecting this outcome. I have experience in desktop pc OC and benching. I do agree this package needs a 400w < power supply.
Can you comment on the quality of the components on the mobo. Wondering if it would accept more power, or this system needs to be sold with 460s and not 480s.
They should have gone with a socket 1156, power requirements are less. -
Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
i think this machine will do some serious overclock with the right PSU. because it plays games real good and the quality of the components seems to be first class also the temps are under control
-
Thanks for the info dude.. Sager, pass this info onto clevo asap, please!
-
Or they can swap out the 480Ms for something less power hungry like the 5870s or the 460s. Speedy is 100%. You don't want to put $4,000+ down the drain to frustrate yourself with replacing components and/or the PSU. Plus, I don't think he'd be covered by warranty so it's the right decision to completely stop. It's like a baseball manager pulling in a pitcher after 7 innings and 125 pitches even though hurling a no-hitter. As much as you don't want to, you don't want to ruin him (or the PSU in this case).
:-( -
I just hope Clevo offers Crossfire 5870 as an option. The 480s are awesome but they bring the 7200 out of reach for a lot of people.
-
!!

It's kinda obvious that 300W isn't enough. A 400W PSU would be closer to reality.
Now, all the speculations about lower TDP CPU's are irrelevant, as it would mean the system doesn't have the most powerful components anymore. An OC'ed 940XM performs on par with a stock clocked i7-965/975 in most benches. M17X-R2 would remain the most powerful notebook out there.
Replacing 480M's with 470M's/5870's/etc wouldn't help much, as all of them have similar power consumption with maybe up to 50W difference in CF/SLI configs. This would still be pretty close to the limit of the 300W PSU (not to mention that the OC'ing would be almost impossible)
It seems that the best Clevo could do is offer a stronger PSU for SLI configs.
300W should be enough for single GPU systems. -
These x7200 threads have slowed right down all of a sudden now that the system is out, thats saying something
-
100w per gpu, 130w for the cpu, that is already 330w and doesnt count the rest of the system. there is no overclocking potential in this system and the system cannot be stressed to the max without instability. i am not sure what clevo was thinking with the psu requirements. they need a 400w minimum psu.
or they should have stuck with a mobile platform cpu to save 60w from the system if they had to stick with the 300w psu due to size constraints. -
I wouldnt mind a psu thats twice as big as this HUGE psu if it powered the system to its full potential, I'm somewhat deflated
But maybe I should stop moaning, I have a single gpu system on its way
-
Sorry to hear Speedy. Soooo was I right or was I right? The X7200 cannot handle a 980 + 480M SLi. It needs to compromise by pairing it with a lower wattage CPU and/or 5870 Crossfire/460-470M SLi. Looks like it's only trump card over the M17x-R2 has been nullified. I wouldn't touch this system at this point, there's no reason to. -
Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
-
To be honest, I was hoping the chiconi PSU would scale better and let you hit 380W or close but that was an unrealistic expectation. It sucks you have to send this back because I know you were quite excited about it. At least you still have your awesome desktop.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
This system is a complete fail as its geared towards high end gaming. Waiting on Alienware r3
-
And the negativity begins!
-
And no reseller comments...shy on you! Clevo has no experienced boosses or workers. It just destroys CLEVO as a brand. Flagship=epic fail? Gosh give me a job and this will never happen again
-
-
I'll give it a chance I think, all we need is better psu, thats it, I think the epic fail claims are a bit strong, lets see how clevo deal with this
-
Clevo might have to quickly make a 400w PSU? If mine switches off once I will be letting Sager know!! I wonder how hard it is for an electronics shop to beef up my power supply to 400w?
-
-
I don't think either expects customers to push the systems much beyond factory specification. The M17x can handle overclocks just fine so the PSU isn't as big of a problem though it could definitely use a 300W supply for ideal operations. The Clevo needs around 380W to work properly. I think budget and design constraints play a big role in both companies choosing their PSU sizes. -
Yeah, well the problem with adding 100W to a 300W PSU is like adding 50 pounds to a person. It's already huge as it is and to make it even larger would be making the PSU the size of the average netbook.
