I recently purchased the Sager 170SM which has the synaptics touchpad. Overall, the trackpad is ok, as in its generally quite responsive but the physical area is too small, especially vertically.

However, does anyone notice that the vertical scrolling functionality is close to unusable on this thing? Like half the time when I try scrolling up or down, it either fails to respond, or ends up doing the pinch zoom in / out instead. Other times, it will go in the direction intended, then reverse itself at the end. Very frustrating.

I am using the synaptics 16.3.4 drivers that came on the drivers disc. Left all settings at default. Also not sure if this matters, but I've left the plastic film that the laptop comes with on. Not sure if that might hinder any sensitivity of the pad? I'm inclined to say no because everything else, ie dragging, pointing, double tapping works perfect. Just the scrolling vertically leaves much to be desired.

    Thanks.

16.3.4.0 is the latest on sagers website as well Software Upgrade

might be worth loading it again as i had no scrolling up/down on mine until driver was loaded again. might also be worth removing the plastic film.

Thanks MrDJ, have just tried both suggestions (reloading drivers and removing plastic film). Seems the results are the same, ie inconsistent scrolling. Any other suggestions ? Does this possibly point to a defective trackpad ?

no, it points to it being a non-apple trackpad, i.e. not a trackpad at all.

I have the same issue with my P150SM.

Before this, I owned a Sony S15. The touchpad on that was brilliant, took a while to get used to using the gestures, but in the end, it became second nature.

Then I bought the clevo, knowing it had gesture control, but I must admit, it doesn't compare to my old Vaio. The only real downside to the laptop, imo.

Have you tried to see if there are any from synaptics themselves?

Have you tried adjusting the sensitivity and playing around with the various settings to see if you can get it to perform in a manner to which youre accustomed? It took some fiddling around with the active areas and sensitivities on my np9170 to get it just right for me.

The Synaptics website actually has more up-to-date drivers. Try that...?
