Hi guys, I recently purchased a Sager 170SM with an upgraded 90% gamut glossy screen with the Nvidia 780M. The colors really look great on it, but I have a few questions about it.

    1) I looked at the make of my monitor via MonInfo. It reads the following:

    Manufacturer............. AUO
    Plug and Play ID......... AUO149D
    Data string.............. B173HW01 V4
    Serial number............ n/a
Manufacture date......... 2009, ISO week 1

Given I am buying a brand new laptop in 2013, does it seem a little odd my monitor was made way back in 2009? Is this model the correct one expected for the 90% gamut glossy upgrade part?

    2) I am noticing that when viewing dark pages, and then suddenly switch back to a bright page, the screen colors take a few seconds to adjust back to normal brightness. I am most concerned about this issue. Is this to be expected?

To replicate, I go to the Metro screen. I then search for something. The whole screen proceeds to turn to a dark shade of of blue-ish purple background like normal. Then I immediately go back to desktop. The screen now is noticeably darker, as if someone had turned down the brightness. But the brightness has never changed. I even turned off the windows adaptive brightness.

Then within 3-4 seconds, the brightness picks up and returns back to normal.

Is this normal ? Or is this a defective screen?

For the manufacturing date, it also lists it as ISO week 1, which probably didn't happen, I wouldn't worry too much about the date..

The brightness, that can happen as the screen does have some intelligence about brightness etc, so it could be auto-correcting for it. But that would be something to just keep an eye on.

Ok great thanks, can you elaborate a bit more on how i can test if this is auto brightness changing is defective or normal behavior ? Any steps or tips or what i can do would be great, i do want to make sure i get any potential issues ironed out before the 30 day period is up.

Usually if it can be captured by a video then it should be replaced (AKA if you can see it on a phone video)

Thanks, yea its noticeable enough that a video recording of this would catch it. That being said, can someone test this out and confirm if its only my machine? I purchased my laptop from XoticPc.

Here are the steps to perform:
    1. Press the windows key to bring up metro
    2. Type a search for "mouse"
    3. Stay there for a second or two at the results page
    4. Press windows key + d to go back to desktop. Do you notice if the brightness has changed from dim to light after switching back?
The brightness is restored within 3-4 seconds.

    Thanks.

Nope, I have the Nvidia 780M GPU.

Also I have just replicated the issue by using mspaint. I filled the screen with a dark shade of purple, much like the one used in the metro UI. I made it full screen. Stayed there for a few seconds, then switched back. The screen had the same odd fade in effect.
