Right before i had manually restart the computer my sager was Freezing every 20 seconds. First it went on a long freeze and made noise like some music that just stalls. After that it just went on long freezing till i rebooted and now its running a bit slow like this webpage is a bit laggy when i scroll up and down on it. Also when i am playing cod 4 it locks up also causing all the textures in the game to be all messed up. It shouldn't be a heating problem because i just got the laptop back from sager saying they fixed the problem. Also my temps while gaming go to around 78 for gpu and 60 for cpu. What do you guys think the problem is ? The driver i am on are 174.74 (6.14.11.7474) . Any help would be highly appreciated.

    Thanks

Could be any number of things, from corrupt or bad drivers, to corrupt system files, to a virus or other malware. Have you run an A/V recently? Also, check in your event logs to see what's been logged there.

This is a morning(afternoon) call for a format.
I`d say some sort of virus or trojan...I just hope it's not the thought that just crossed my mind, that being mainboard issues.

I wouldn't go quite that far just yet. It sounds like it's video-related (slow screen updating based on the sluggish browsing and COD4 locking up and giving wacked video) or some other driver that's gotten corrupted and is slowing the whole system to a crawl. Of course, those are also symptoms of a major virus infestation, too.

Depending on how much time the OP has, I'd do an A/V scan, uninstall and reinstall video drivers, and, if that doesn't help, uninstall and reinstall all of the other drivers, and, lastly, I'd back up all my files and do a clean OS reinstallation. If time's too short, I'd just cut to the chase, back everything up, and do a clean reinstallation.

Yup,usually when these things happen, a format is most advised.
AV'es are good at preventing infestation, but once it happens , you need surgery :D

^^ yeah pretty much. Its not a problem that occurs often but it does occur when i play cod 4 but the other day I played lineage 2 for a longtime it was fine. Also a restart usually fixes everything. I wonder why a restart fixes everything? Resets somethings?

    Clears RAM.

Just for the heck of it, open up task manager and watch the memory usage from time to time.

That sounds like you've got a memory leak somewheres - something is slowly claiming memory resources, and not releasing it properly when it's finished using those resources. If it's happening most frequently after a game or some other graphics-intensive use, I would guess that you've got a corrupt video driver that's causing your crashes and also eating up your memory.

It really would not hurt to fully uninstall the video drivers and reinstall them.

yeah the funny thing is i did this awhile ago. This occured about 3 months ago. But i never bother to fix being caught up in work and not gaming much but I did reinstall drivers and make sure they were wiped out but ill do it again and try different drivers.

Or the RAM usage? I remember a cursed fingerprint reader issue that even I have had on my 5791 before. It was eating all of my RAM within 1-2 hours of booting until I updated the driver.

okay how do i look at my events log. 2nd No its not my ram that gets flooded because when this freeze happens the first thing i check is ram and cpu they are usually fine. But like today. The freezing kept happening every 5 secs and i couldn't open task manager.

But please explain about event logs - Thanks

Since you're on XP, do the following:

Start->Run, and type EVENTVWR in the run box and hit ok.

That will bring up the eventlog portion of your WMI instrumentation. You should see a series of event log categories, beginning with "Applications." Click on that one, and a list of logged events, mostly informational events, should come up in the right window-pane. Scroll through there and either check the ones marked "warning" or find the informational ones that correspond to the time when the system crashed/froze and see what they have to say. Do the same for the other categories (some may not have any entries if that particular log hasn't been enabled yet).

    ^^ Wait seriously?????
tell me because its under warranty also if you guys know me some what on the forums I had major heating problems with the gpu.

Also a questions does windows xp effects temps? because my temps were much lower in vista.
Is there a way to save events logs so i can post my logs here ? and do my logs have anything private info that i could leak if i share my event logs if possible?
