Thought I'd post some pictures of the notebook as many of you are still waiting.
I'm not forum literate, so it will take 3 posts.

First impressions?
Thanks for the pics btw -
is it portable or is it just to heavy and big
-
There is no noticable latch - it just pulls itself shut once you've brought it down about 3/4 of the way. I personally like the look a lot - gamer dressed in a business suit. As noted elsewhere, the back is glossy and not fingerprint proof. Other than that, I'm working with software at the moment so don't have much more to say. I'll write more later on tonight.
*Edit*
I don't mean to keep anyone in suspense. I'm in suspense myself. My fiance wants to go shopping, tax free weekend, so in about an hour I won't be doing anything with the laptop until later tonightCruel and unusual!
Oh yeah - I was impressed with the packaging quality. There were 3 total boxes, one exterior, one interior, and one that held and organized everything besides the laptop. None were damaged. The laptop itself was also wrapped well as can be seen in the pictures. -
Haha have fun shopping!
I'm eager to hear your thoughts on it tonight.
-
thanks for the reply i cant wait to get mine!
-
Is that a Sager sticker on the lid? I'm so going to pry that off so I can have a beautiful, polished lid.

Looks just like the packing of mine, too bad mine was the wrong model and broken
Congrats on yours, and on your marriage(not out of line am I?) -
A few updates.
The screen is amazing if not for one very important issue that I will get to later. The horizontal viewing angles are huge (practically 180 degrees), the vertical slightly above average, and the brightness is excellent. I took the laptop to a public, outdoor area in the middle of the day and had absolutely no problem seeing the screen. I do not have good vision and am used to lower resolution, but i cannot complain at all about the resolution - no problem reading with or without glasses and there is no glare. My eyes feel great! Guess I had my Kellogg's.
The computer is very quiet thus far and generates only mild heat around the track pad.
There is flex on the right side of the keyboard. Unless you have an abnormally strong right hand (not asking why), you're probably not going to hit the keys hard enough to notice. I literally have to press 4 fingers hard on the keyboard to test it. There is also flex on the far left of the keyboard by the shift key.
All of my keys work except I am not sure what the Wow Video/Audio do. I haven't been able to check the camera yet, but everything else installed easily on 32 bit vista ultimate.
The major problem: my screen has at least 10 dead pixels. Obvious and inexcusable, I am definitely not looking forward to waiting for the laptop again.
If you've any questions, I'll be glad to address what I can. My score in 3dmark06 was 2922 at 1280 x 1024 and SuperPi took 60 seconds.
Everything runs very smoothly and I am surprised to say that I am impressed with vista. The main software issue was with some programs claiming that DirectX9.0c needed to be installed.
I haven't done any game benchmark testing yet.
Hope this helps
Edit - I must be tired. There were grammar mistakes everywhere -
"Every component of a Sager PC is checked, then rechecked, to ensure system integrity. Then each computer is tested for a full 96 hours, in two separate procedures, to certify system excellence. Sager's state-of-the-art testing facility ensures that your portable PC will perform to Sager standards."
How did 10 dead pixels get by 96 hours of testing? -
I am wondering the same thing.
-
woahhh....
so much for sager's extensive testing...did they test blindfolded? -
could you tell me the program you use to etst for dead pixels..
ill guess ill do the same ocne i get mine on monday..
and what do you plan on doing about the dead pixels? -

I know that you have to pay extra for the 0 dead pixel policy, but doesn't the warranty cover dead pixels past a particular number?
-
its definately under 10 so you should put in a complaint to your reseller to see how to deal w/sager.

I've heard of programs in the past that are basically like a color strobe (basically I think they were meant to give people seizures), that were made to hopefully fix stuck pixels. Whether or not that would help, it's just something I've heard of when I was reading about PSP's and their screens with stuck pixels
-
-
Yea i Had that thing on my PSP. Prob work for comps
-
But then again... that's only for "stuck" pixels, not dead
-
dead pixels are dead. but you should test it using those methods to see if it is truely dead. or maybe just stuck on black or something.
-
Thanks for the links guys. I am running JScreenFix on the pixels now and will report back if any of the bad pixels are dead or just stuck. Crossing my fingers.
-
JScreenFix did not repair the screen blemishes.
I use DPB.exe to manually/visually detect the bad pixels.
I've one pixel on the mid-left that appears bright red on a black screen. The pixels immediately around it appear to be dulled. On changing to other color to lighter screens, the pixel turns to a dull blue.
The other bad pixels do not affect their surroundings and don't seem to have any color or change when the screen changes color. They have a sort-of crystal appearance and are not as easy to spot. I thought these may be stuck pixels but apparently not. I may try the pressure/tapping method. -
While they have a dead pixel guarantee you can purchase to ensure you don't get a machine with them, they also have a 30-day money back satisfaction guarantee and say they have extensive testing "to certify system excellence". If they give you a hard time with dead pixels on a supposedly thoroughly tested machine I'd raise hell.
-
I contacted xoticpc before I made this thread. They said to call them on Monday to resolve the issue. As an update, tapping and software haven't worked. As I said above, there is 1 colored bad pixel. It changes color depending on the screen color. The rest of them are always black, not crystal. On a black background, they cannot be seen.
-
i am worried about mine now. -
Me too. I hope mine doesn't have any dead pixels...
-
Dead pixels are a problem with any notebook or LCD monitor, so I'm worried too, but I was before this thread. I've been lucky with none so far and I'm hoping it continues...
-
You guys are on a forum for a specific model of a laptop. YOu shouldn't be worrying about a couple people who have a problem with their laptop. Obviously only those that have a problem are going to talk about their problem. If it really is only these people that have it out of all the ones sold, then you are still at a pretty good percentage.
-
Comforting to know that GlueEater, but there is always that one ruddy chance that we may be one the 'small percentage unfortunates'...
Apparently, one of the more popular rumours says that poking the screen with your finger can actually remove dead pixels. If that were the case,I'd be gaming with one hand and poking the screen hard with the other -
-
Not poke, but massage it. And I think he might be talking about stuck pixels. Because dead is dead.
-
Yeah,I MEANT stuck but TYPED dead,*slip of hand and brain*.My friend claims that it reduced a whole line of stuck pixels on his PSP to 5 or 6,don't know how true that could be....
-
The dead pixels didn't bother me nearly so much at work so i thought I'd just live with them. Today, I find out my external hard drive probably, according to sager, caused a spark, and now the computer won't do anything. The motherboard just beeps twice. I checked the memory - nothing wrong. I'm getting an RMA number and will be mailing the laptop back after all. Grr!
Anything that can fix the problem w/o resorting to sending in the machine? I've fixed similar issues on a desktop, but this is no desktop
For those concerned, this is an excellent laptop! I've just run into some really terrible luck. -
wow external hd causing a spark??? O_O what the heck happened?
hardware issues in my view you should send back if the laptop is still under warrenty even if you have to wait. -
Ouch. Sorry to hear that! Talk about bad luck...

David at Sager did not say why, but he said that having the external power source on and connected to the usb port before turning the laptop on can cause a spark. I did not connect the device until after everything was installed - wasn't first time I turned the laptop on
Lesson: unplug externally powered usb devices after turning laptop off.
-
I've encountered "power surges" when hooking up external usb drives, but they have yet to damage any data or the drive itself yet *knocks on wood*. I have yet to see an actual spark fly out though.

If I end up waiting for 1 month + for this laptop, and it fries for a stupid reason like this...
-
Ive noticed this sometimes too on my desktop and laptop but not my external hd but my Ipod Shuffle 2G...its really weird. The computer refuses to boot if it is connected when it the computer off.
-
ya I had that with my 30G on my desktop too.. I think the comp is trying to boot off of the ipod maybe? I'm not sure what was the deal.. but i'm pretty sure it'd unrelated to the HDD thing
-
Wierd.Just a week ago when I tried to switch on my dad's laptop with his external HD in it,it refused to boot until I removed it.
Just a shot in the dark here, but do you think that the laptop somehow 'recognises' the surge and prevents it from happening or something? Stupid,I know -
As an update, Sager fixed the problem by replacing the VGA card - odd. It was working fine and died randomly within the first week. The laptop was out of my hands for 2 weeks, all told. It's working quite nicely now
