The night before my Sager 2090 died on me, it was hanging for a few minutes on the "Windows is now shutting down..." screen. I'm not sure if the long shutdown process contributed to any damages to my laptop. However, the next morning, I powered on my laptop; right after the BIOS screen showed up, the laptop immediately shut itself down. I power it on again, but this time, it does not even show the BIOS screen - just a blank, black screen. The LEDs at the bottom of the laptop do turn on, but I've noticed that the "busy" blue flashing signal below the LCD only flashes for a few seconds at the beginning of turning the laptop on, then it stops flashing. I can hear the fans at the bottom of my laptop working.

I have tried taking the battery out and only plugging the laptop into the AC outlet and it shows the same symptoms: same blank, black screen with LEDs on, fan turning on at the beginning. I have also tried plugging the laptop into an external monitor and pressing Fn+F3 to see if anything displays, but nothing shows up at all.

I took the laptop to my local Circuit City store to diagnose what could be the root of the issue. The Firedog service team told me that it is more than likely a motherboard problem. At this point, I am planning on sending my laptop back to Sager to do an out-of-warranty service as my 1-year warranty expired approximately three months ago. Since it could be a motherboard issue, am I completely out of luck - as in it will cost a great deal of money to repair my laptop to the point where I am better off purchasing a new one? I spent about $1800 on this laptop :/.

Also, prior to shipping my laptop out to Sager to get it fixed, how do I go about backing up my hard drive data? I do not have an external hard drive or USB hard drive, but I have access to a desktop computer nearby. Would I have to take the laptop's hard drive out and place it in my desktop PC?

    Thanks!

could be a corrupt bios. i would try to re-flash the bios first. if that fails you can try crisis if that fails then it def could be hardware...the hard drive in your 2090 is a sata drive. simply take it out of the notebook and if you have a sata port free you can just plug it in to your desktop and boot up and see all your files on it copy them to your desktop or make a image of it at that point of what you need or the whole drive

I have the same problem with my msi. At times it will boot up just fine but 90 percent of the time it wont boot up at all. When I turn my laptop on everything lights up except the screen.
