My fan keeps whirring on and off and its starting to get annoying. Usually the fan goes on for a little then stops, but now it whirs for about 3 seconds, stops for 2 seconds, goes on for another 3 seconds. Is this normal or is something wrong?
My cpu temperature is about 50 degrees celsius and I'm not doing any intense gaming. Just casual browsing.

yeah it should be about 35C when youre not doing anything intense I had this problem too a few weeks ago, but fixed it. I'm not sure if it was cuz I updated my BIOS or because I turned my computer off and didn't use it for about half a day. Try doing that and see if it fixes it.

35C? Isn't that a bit low? bump

I am also having this same problem. I notice the problem the most when I am running on battery, since I am usually in a quite place. As I am typing this, my fan is running constantly. At some points it will slow down like it is going to stop, but then go right back to running at full speed.
I plan on updating to the new bios 1.12 tonight, hopefully that will take care of it. -
How do you update the bios? I just got my 2090 yesterday and I'd like to do it too.
And what kind of stuff would updating the bios help with/improve? -
If you just got it yesterday, you probably already have the newest bios.
These two links will help in flashing

Updating to bios 1.12 seems to have helped. The fan is still on often, but it turns off occasionally now instead of staying on constantly.

Wait so.. newb question here... When you update BIOS, it doesn't require formatting the hard drive, right? When you said "flashing" i got worried.
-
No I've had the laptop for several weeks now. Should I update to 1.12? If so, how?
-
I would like to caution those who are contemplating flashing the bios and have never done it before. This is not like reformatting a HDD, if not done properly you could render your computer inoperable. Make sure you research flashing carefully and understand what you're doing before attempting this. It's not that difficult to do if you follow directions but you should know that there are potential consequences.
-
Caution is required because a bad bios update (computer crashes, someone aborts the process, anything) can corrupt the flash and render the device inoperable until you successfully reflash it again.
For something critical like your motherboard BIOS, you don't get a second chance to reflash it if you mess it up. Usually you'll need to replace the flash chip with a new one that contains a good BIOS image. This happens at times and that's why the flash chip is usually socketed.
BIOS is essentially the boot-loader software for your computer. -
To everybody who has problem of fan spinning all the time and cpu temps going up in temps.
Try to uninstall the driver for the touchpad(elantech) and check if problem persist. This has solved my problem and I am using generic Vista driver.
This is a known issue for HEL80 models and IFL90 uses the same touchpad.
Yes, you will loose the means of turning of off the clicking on the touchpad but you will save your laptop. So suit your self.
EDIT: This is a driver issue and I am not sure if the problem exist on every os. I use Vista 32bit.
Also Ubuntu 7.04 which did not give me this problem. -
Well, nothing has changed...in like 2 minutes my fan has gone on and off 3 times. It runs for about 30 seconds then goes off for like 30 more seconds then goes on again. I'm only running firefox and this is ridiculous. Should it be going off and on like that? If not, what's wrong?
Oh, and my cpu temperature is about 50C
