Can you see anything during power on like the POST screen??
Maybe let the unit cool off for a while and see if it works but does sound like hardware. If it were a driver problem should still see your post screen or logo or whatever is shown during power on.

I trust that HP adapter is the same voltage as the Sager adapter? Anything higher can do damage but its usually immediate unless it was just high enough to slowly kill the components. Capacitors will take the hit with over voltage.
Any nasty smell coming from the fan vents?

Most likely the video card took a dump.
Usually artifacts are cased by overheating of the core or memory.
either see if you can test another card or maybe bake it.
see youtube video card baking and then you will know.
maybe temp fix or full fix.
fixed a broken 8800GT its been almost year.

    I'll 2nd the bake technique.
I've never done it myself but, I know someone who built a little oven kit for that purpose.
Sounds nuts but it can work if done correctly.

you could upgrade to a ati 3650 ddr3 version but you would need to take the entire laptop apart or better yet ati 4650 ddr2 version. i am in the process to upgrade my 2090 to the 4650 when it arrives.
