    Hey all,

Old computer, I know. I recently did a XP reinstall and now when I close the laptop when it's on, the monitor won't turn back on when I open it. The computer is still running fine, the monitor won't come back on.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks.

There is a driver update you will have to get that fixes the issues.

When you do a fresh operating system install it will reset your power scheme options, like what your laptop will do when you close the lid. By default it probably is on something like when lid is closed put computer on standby. Pressing the laptop's power button once should bring the display back up. This is what it does on my XP laptop too.

    To change the options:

    (1) Right click on anywhere on your desktop display.

    (2) Choose "properties" option in the menu that comes up.

    (3) Click on the "Screen saver" tab at the top of the new window.

    (4) Click the "power" button near the bottom of this window.

    (5) Change any options here for when monitor and hard drives turn off (two
schemes here for what your laptop should do automatically when laptop is plugged into the mains or running off battery only). Press "apply" button if you made any changes.

    (6) Now click the "advanced" tab at the top of this same window.

    (7) There are three options in this new window. What to do when the lid is closed, when you press the laptop power button, and when you press the laptop sleep button. Change the options to what you desire. Click accept at the bottom of the window to save changes.

Personally I wouldn't set the option to "do nothing when you close lid", because it will leave your screen on until the laptop is shut down, or until the monitor is turns off depending on your options in the "power Schemes" tab. If it never turns off it'll probably damage your monitor over a long period of time. Note there isn't an option for fully turning off your monitor by shutting the lid. Personally I set my laptop power button to shut down in the menu (pressing button once will shut down windows safely + save setting etc.).
