    Hi folks,

Although this is not Sager NP2092 (Compal JFL92) specific problem ... I wanted to post it here, so may be someone with 2092 or a 2090 might have a solution for my problem ...

The wireless Intel PRO 4965AGN that comes with the Sager Compal. Reception signal stinks (for lack of any other technical terms). My friend has a Fujitsu and this laptop kicks ass off of my fancy shmansy Sager. Atheros AR5006EXS wireless adapter ... grabs twice as many locations.

Q1: How can I improve upon the reception of Intel wireless?

I always thought if it is Intel, must be better ... heck when setting up a Fujitsu ... you see Atheros card is cheaper than Intel ... so I thought INTEL must be better. Well, I was dead wrong.

    Thanks,
    G!

I have an NP2090 and my wife has an NP2092. We both have the 4965AGN. Neither of us have problems with reception. We both use Linux (Ubuntu), however.

I use my NP2090 on school grounds without problem. Any time I've compared with friends, it seems that reception was comparable.

I'm wondering whether your antenna was properly connected to the wireless card.

    Hi lemur,

Since I am not that savvy with laptops, I have to do a search and find out how I can verify that. Also, may be call Sager Tech Support.

    Thanks,

    G!

Better to call your vendor's tech support.

Another thing which might be worth doing if it can be done without too much trouble is to compare your reception to someone else who also has a 4965AGN. I mean, if you can physically get together and compare reception, that would help deciding whether there's a real problem with the 4965AGN or not. For instance, if you and a friend have both the 4965 and he gets much better reception than you do, then the problem is definitely specific to your laptop.

    Hi guys,

@ Paladin ... on that suggestion "Good Luck" to me ... my "Reseller" tells me call "Sager" Tech Support ... loosely translated in my mind ... "get lost". And you know it is not you guys. BTW, some of the Techs at Sager ... I am not sure if they are on top of their game. I get more help and straight answer here at NBR.

@ lemur ... I actully managed by magic to manuver the "Unfriendly" Intel's website and find something on the Intel 4965AGN wireless ... and under Devices, Properties ... I checked my settings and they seem to have been set A-OK.

But here is the Lesson Learned for me Intel Wireless are "Over-Rated" and under Power, and under Range. If I had a choice I would buy "Atheros Wireless Adapter" excellent wireless ... beats Intel every time. What probably confuses the people when ordering their laptop when they see that they have a choice between Intel and Atheros and Intel costs more $ ... so, they incorrectly assume ... intel must be superior. Well, they are dead wrong.

So, for now I am stuck with the Intel 4695 and the darn short range ... since Sager/Compal that is all they offer.

Thanks for you folks' help as usual,
    G! :)

my intel card is much better than the atheros i had in my previous laptop. the previous intel i had before that did quite well too. the atheros wasn't bad, but i have had much less drops and pick up far more routers around me with more bars with the intel agn card.
