I purchased a Sager 2096 about 2 month months ago, and it's been working great until last night. I was using it and it suddenly shut off. I tried to turn it back on, but it wasn't responding. I thought it may have overheated, so I waited 2 hours and tried to turn it on again. Still no response. I took the battery out and put it back in, and when I plugged the power supply back into the laptop, the blue battery light started blinking. I was also surprised that the laptop started to boot up when I hit the power button, but then it shut down right after the vista loading screen and before the windows login screen.

Now it does that everytime I try to boot the laptop up: Just before the windows login screen, it shuts down. And everytime it powers down, I have to take the battery out and pop it back in if I want to turn it on again. I've taken the utmost care of this laptop since I've received it, and am very disappointed this is happening. Can anybody please help me figure out what might be the problem with my laptop?

    For your information:

    1) If I unplug the power supply when it is attempting to boot up, the laptop powers off immediately.

    2) When the laptop first powered off: The laptop was plugged in to the power supply which was plugged into a surge protector, the battery was fully charged, and I was watching a movie on it.

    3) I have tried plugging the power supply into several different outlets.

    4) The laptop will not power on if it is plugged into the power supply but has no battery.

    5) The laptop's battery light will blink orange if I try to power it up without the power supply plugged in (again, after reattaching the battery).

    6) I have tried booting in safe mode, and again it powered off just before the windows login screen.

what happens if you try to boot with the battery removed, but the AC connected?

Nothing. No lights turn on, and nothing responds at all. The only way I can get it to boot up is if I attach the battery and plug the ac in. And lately, it's powering off during the Sager bootup screen. It doesn't even get to the Vista loading screen.

Since the laptop seems to be powering off sooner and sooner, I was thinking I might be dealing with a nearly drained battery and a bad ac adapter, and the battery is drained because it just isn't charging. However, there are a couple reasons that make me think that may not be the cause. Before my laptop first powered off, it never made the beeping noise that the Sager 2096 makes when it's low on battery. So, I think it was fully charged when it first powered off. Also, the laptop won't power on at all when the battery is attached but the AC is unplugged. And the green light on the power brick is lit up as well.

You most likely have a bad AC adapter. I had a very similar issue - I called XoticPC, they had Sager ship me a new charger and I sent mine back. Problem fixed.

I hope your right. It's just strange how the laptop never beeped before it powered off. I will call XoticPC on Monday and keep you guys updated.
