I've never bought from or heard of Sager before I started looking for a laptop for college recently, but the NP2098 on Sager's website seems to be the best deal for my budget. I'm thinking about getting one with this setup:
-15.6" WXGA WLED Display with Super Glossy Surface (1366x768)
    -45nm Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T9550 / 6MB L2 Cache, 2.66GHz, 1066MHz
-ATI MOBILITY RADEON HD 4650 Graphics with 512MB DDR3
    -Windows Vista Home Premium
    -4GB Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1066MHz - 2 X 2GB
    -320GB 7200rpm SATA 300 Hard Drive

The price comes to $1129, which beats out anything I else I've seen with the same specs. Is there a reason that it is so much cheaper (a similar set up dell studio xps or hp hdx16t comes to about $1300-$1500)? Also, I haven't been able to find much info about the 2098. Is build quality/reliability up to par?

I also like the 2098 a great deal and think, on paper, its a great combination of value and performance. The only think that I don't like about it is screen resolution. I really wish this unit offered the option of a higher res screen.

Yeah, I would have liked to go about a bit better with the screen too. And unfortunately i can't wait, I need to place an order within the next two days.

icehell, is there any way to see the second link in english?

    Low overhead=Low price

Sager is not like HP and Dell or any other major dealors(not to say HP or Dell are no good), they don't spend all the extra money advertising to market their laptop which gets passed on by Giving the consumer "More bang for their buck" :D

I am jumping on the 2098 bandwagon. I sat down this week with one of the new 13" MBPs, XoticPC's website, and my wallet and had a good couple hours of decision making. In the end, I went with a fairly vanilla 2098 build with a P9700 processor. Without the OS (I will be installing Win7 on my own) and with a 2 year P&L warranty and 0 dead pixel guarantee, it came to under $1200. I can't wait to retire this HP dv6000t/T5300. My wife is getting a reliable hand-me-down (to replace her 6 year old Dell 8500), and I'm getting a serious workhorse machine.

There may even be a small review on the way, too.

I've been using mine for about two weeks now and I love it. The computer I got was exactly what I was expecting to get and more; no where else could I find a laptop with the same specs for that price. I was also surprised to see that it looked even better in person than online. I definitely would recommend this notebook.

Is the back a fingerprint magnet? That is my one major issue with many recent laptops (shiny, ugh). If so, is there anywhere i can pick up a cover (solid black, no prints please) or something like a bestSkinsEver or Invisible Shield?

yeah, the back is shiny and does take fingerprints easily, but it is not nearly as bad as I thought. The prints are not even visible except in certain lighting. I'd be interested in a case like that, too, if only for protection.

i wouldnt even know where to start on a review. can someone point me to an example? i could give it a shot i guess. as for games, mine runs COD5, COD4, and Far Cry 2, all at highest settings. And as far as i can tell, the only game that i cant run at the recommended settings (according to systemrequirementslab.com) is GTA IV, but only because i dont have a quad core processor.

Here's all you need to answer:

    - How's the build quality?

    - How's the screen?

    - How's the keyboard feel?

    - Check temperatures ( download HWMonitor). What are the CPU, GPU, and HDD maxes?

    - How well does it run your favorite games? Check frames per second with FRAPS.

    - Conclude with overall satisfaction and any other misc thoughts

You can add pictures if you want to, but they're not required. It doesn't have to be long and drawn out.

Yeah, I'd like to hear more about this laptop too. What is the battery life on laptop with WLAN on and just surfing around/typing up notes?

I'm getting about four hours of battery life just working on the internet and such. and contrary to what systemrequirementslab.com said, GTAIV works 100% perfectly at mostly high settings.
