    Hey all,

I've been having some trouble with the optical drive and Linux, does someone know exactly what type of connection the optical drive uses? PATA maybe?

    Thanks,

    Andrew

Well I don't know much about this so I'm sure someone else can jump in and give help you.

    From Sager's website:
With a little help from Google I got this website:

This is just what I got from doing some quick research.
Someone like Gophn or Chaz would probably know the answer to this.

Well I think you're right. SATA optical drives are pretty rare on the market. Heck I think they're still even rare on the desktop market...

I have the 5710 which is the PM version of the 5750 and I use a second battery or DVD/Cd in the optinal drive bay.

I believe it is PATA. The secondary hard drive option for the NP5750 is just a caddy - the actual drive connects to the caddy with SATA but the caddy itself connects to the notebook through a PATA connection.

    it should be PATA,

in fact, I believe most Clevo resellers use the Pioneer DVR-K16 (or its next step up) for the DVD-Burner.

Although I do see some use some Toshiba and NEC DVD-Burners as well.
